New budget will help those who rely on essential services
Sununu: Republican legislators deserve credit for making the budget deal a reality. Hassan can't take credit for something she didn't do.
EXETER, NH - Today, Executive Councilor Chris Sununu, Republican candidate for governor, issued the following statement regarding the state budget.
"Republican legislators deserve credit for making the budget deal a reality. And, certainly, Maggie Hassan can't take credit for something she didn't do.
"I'm pleased that this new budget will now go to work funding programs for those who rely on essential services. The budget developed and passed by the Senate and House is a fiscally responsible measure that provides vital funding for mental health, substance abuse prevention and treatment, the developmentally disabled, home health care, charter schools, and more. And, it includes much needed tax relief for the businesses that power our state's economy.
"It was a mistake for Governor Hassan to veto the budget in the first place, which accomplished nothing more than delaying necessary funding for important services. The fact that she handed out ceremonial pens after yesterday's signing is strange, because her politically-charged behavior these past few months is nothing to commemorate.
New Hampshire needs a governor who will be a leader and engage the legislature, not someone who lets political ambition dictate fiscal policy."
