Did you see the State of the Union speech this week? I was surprised President Obama had the audacity to tout the Iran deal even as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was holding U.S. sailors.
I’m very glad the sailors were released, but we need a stronger approach to the threats Iran poses. That’s why I’m continuing to stand up against the reckless Iran deal and fighting to make sure we keep rigorous sanctions in place.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only area where President Obama’s national security policies are wrong for our country. We cannot and we should not go through with President Obama’s dangerous plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and bring those terrorists to U.S. soil. I helped pass legislation to prohibit the closing of Guantanamo Bay, and I’m taking the White House to task for recent detainee transfers that could end up seeing terrorists go right back to the battlefield.
Finally, our response to North Korea’s recent claims of testing a hydrogen bomb must be clear and resolved. We will not tolerate North Korean nuclear aggression and we should pursue tough new sanctions. And that’s exactly what I’m calling for in the Senate.
I’ll never stop fighting to keep our kids and our communities safe. I just wanted to take a moment to fill you in on the ways we’re tackling some of the most serious threats to our national security.
Thanks for your time,
