Bradley For Congress - Kerry Healey Endorses Jeb Bradley

FORMER MASS LT. GOVERNOR ENDORSES JEB BRADLEY FOR CONGRESS

Kerry Healey Gives Support to Bradley in his 1st District NH Race

Wolfeboro, NH –Former Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kerry Healey has endorsed Jeb Bradley in his race for the Republican nomination in the 1st Congressional District of New Hampshire.

“Our economy is struggling, gas prices have gone through the roof and our troops have not received the funding they need either abroad or when they return home. And what has this Congress under Democratic control done about it? Absolutely nothing. What we need are people in Washington who represent our interests.  Who will put the partisan games away, stop searching for headline making legislation and instead come up with real solutions to the problems we face. Jeb Bradley has done it in the past and will do it again.  He is right for New Hampshire and for our country. I may not get to vote for him, but I certainly support himwhole heartedly,” said Healey.

Healey recently hosted a reception for Bradley and received enormous support from neighbors-to-the-south who are being directly affected by the actions, not just of their own representatives, but also of those over the border to the north.

“I am honored to have the support of Kerry Healey.  She is someone who has fought for the people in her homestate of Massachusetts and truly represents the kind of leadership our party and our region needs,” Bradley said. “I look forward to working with Kerry to keeping our region economically viable through low taxes and spending.”

Bosse For Congress - Horn Breaks Campaign Finance Laws

*Uses Tax-Exempt Organizations to Raise Campaign Cash*

(Concord) Hillsboro Republican Grant Bosse today criticized rival Jennifer Horn for using tax-exempt organizations to raise campaign funds. Horn is having Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, Vice President of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and Co-Chairman of the Counterterrorism Foundation, headline a political fundraiser for her campaign next week. Both organizations are tax-exempt and barred from participating in political campaigns.

“Jennifer Horn either doesn’t know the law, or she doesn’t care. One week from tonight, she has scheduled a fundraiser featuring a staff member and officer of a tax-exempt organization,” Bosse said. “Jennifer Horn needs to cancel this event, and find another way to raise money for her campaign.”

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies is a nonpartisan policy institute dedicated to promoting pluralism, defending democratic values, and fighting the ideologies that drive terrorism. The Counterterrorism Foundation (CTF) supports the Counterterrorism Blog and education panels across the country. Both are recognized as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations.

IRS rules clearly state that “all 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening on, any political campaign…” A recent letter from Steven Miller, Commissioner of the IRS Tax-Exempt and Government Entities Division made this prohibition crystal-clear. “Thus, under federal law tax-exempt charitable organizations are prohibited from endorsing any candidates, making donations to their campaigns, *engaging in fund-raising*, distributing statements, or becoming involved in any other activities that may be beneficial or detrimental to any candidate.”

“Jennifer Horn has shown contempt for her opponents and the voters of New Hampshire, and tried to launch her political career by attacking those of us who have worked to bring the Republican Party back to its basic principles,” Bosse added. “Now she’s trying to revive her crumbling campaign by breaking the law.”

NRCC - Carol Shea-Porter: No Friend of Workers' Rights

New Hampshire Rep. Claims to Support Workers’ Rights, But Answers to Union Bosses

Washington- Freshman Rep. Carol Shea Porter (NH-01) would like to have the voters believe her claims that she is on the side of American workers. But when she was spotted at an event in New Hampshire earlier this week, Shea-Porter tried to dodge questions about why she voted to strip a union worker’s right to a secret ballot.  But unfortunately for her, Shea-Porter can’t run from her record:  Click here to view the video: http://laborpains.org/?p=882

Despite her rhetoric on the campaign trail, in Washington, Carol Shea-Porter has repeatedly sided with union bosses and voted against workers’ rights.  During her short tenure in Congress, Shea-Porter has racked up an anti-worker record in Congress and the votes don’t lie:

•    Carol Shea-Porter sided with supposedly pro-labor Democrats and voted to strip away a worker’s democratic right to a secret ballot (House Roll Call 118).
•    Carol Shea-Porter voted against a motion to restore $2 million to the federal office responsible for investigating union corruption (House Roll Call 642).
•    Carol Shea-Porter voted against requiring proof of citizenship to join a union, opening the door for illegal immigrants to join (House Roll Call 117).

Carol Shea-Porter has proven herself to be a loyal servant to union bosses, which comes as no surprise. After taking special interest money to the tune of $104,000 from big labor bosses, Shea-Porter seems more than happy to pay back every dollar with votes that hurt American workers.

The Washington Post agrees that the secret union ballot is one of the most basic and necessary rights for American workers:
“Employees who are skeptical of or opposed to bringing a union into the workplace deserve the protections of a secret-ballot election rather than having to face pressures from colleagues pushing them to sign unionization cards.” (Washington Post, 3/12/07)
Unfortunately, Carol Shea-Porter doesn’t seem to see eye-to-eye with New Hampshire voters about what it means to protect workers’ rights.

“For Carol Shea-Porter to tell New Hampshire voters that she supports workers’ rights after voting to strip them away at the behest of her labor boss friends is laughable,” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “Shea-Porter can’t run from her record of betraying the rights of individual workers, particularly when it comes to taking away their right to a private ballot.”

Carol Shea-Porter can make as many flowery claims as she wants, but it’s time for her to own up to her record of paying back big union bosses and neglecting the workers of New Hampshire.

Interfaith Alliance to Candidates: Respect All Americans Equally

Washington, D.C. – The President of the Interfaith Alliance, Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, today released the following letter he authored to both Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain encouraging both candidates to treat all Americans, including Muslims, equally and to fully engage them and other religious minorities in the political process.

Rev. Dr. Gaddy’s Letter follows:
24 June 2008

TO: Presidential Campaigns of Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama
FROM: The Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, President, Interfaith Alliance

Religion has carried a high profile in the 2008 campaign season so far, but not all faith groups are feeling welcomed into the political process. A recent New York Times article in which Muslim leaders complain of exclusion from the campaign process highlights the challenge: Selecting the leader of all Americans must involve the participation of all Americans. This year’s presidential candidates have an historic opportunity to make that happen.

There are 2.35 million Muslims in America, living in cities and suburbs and rural areas in every region of the country. The nation’s largest communities make their homes in big cities in New York and Michigan, but the country’s first mosque still stands in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (pop. 125,000). Though they fall across the spectrum demographically, America’s Muslims share one thing: marginalization because of a false association of their religion with violence and extremism.

John McCain and Barack Obama have the chance to help make 2008 the year that stops.

To the Obama campaign, we issue this challenge: The next time someone asks if you are Muslim, don’t just say no and recite your Christian bona fides. Ask them why it matters. We’ve seen already that some of your opponents will try to use your family religious history against you. Rise above that, and use the moment to teach someone why calling you a Muslim isn’t correct, but it certainly isn’t a slur.

To the McCain campaign, a slightly different but no less important challenge: Don’t ignore the Muslim community because you assume they’ll vote the other way. Every citizen should hear clear, strong messages from all political parties in order to make an educated decision in the voting booth.

Both campaigns bear responsibility for making sure that Muslim Americans are fully included in the political process. To be clear, we are not asking for politically orchestrated photo-ops in front of mosques (or any other houses of worship, for that matter). We want to see real engagement of the Muslim community on substantive issues affecting their lives.

If the electoral process is not truly open to all Muslims who are American citizens, religious freedom in this nation is in serious jeopardy for people of all religions and people of no religion. We call on Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain to lead the nation away from ugly stereotyping and toward a process of civic involvement for all America’s citizens that strengthens the nation’s commitment to freedom and justice for all.

Yours,
Welton Gaddy
President, Interfaith Alliance
