NH Secretary of State Bill Gardner to to discuss first-in-the-nation primary status
Concord -- The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance will be hosting its fourth Liberty Dinner on June 17, 2007. The dinner will be held at the Holiday Inn, Concord, NH. The evening begins at 5:00 pm with dinner served at 5:45pm.
The guest speaker of this year's dinner will be New Hampshire Secretary of State, Bill Gardner.
Bill Gardner is the longest serving state level Secretary of State in US History. His department oversees all general elections, primary elections, voter registration and recounts in New Hampshire – including the Presidential Primary.
Gardner began his career in New Hampshire politics as a state representative, and was elected Secretary of State in 1976 by the New Hampshire legislature. He has served under both Democratic and Republican legislatures.
Gardner has taken the lead in New Hampshire’s “100% Paper Ballot” election policy. Some states have turned to computerized voting systems that do not create paper records of each vote.
A strong supporter of New Hampshire’s standing as the “first in the nation” primary state, Gardner wrote /Why New Hampshire /with former NH governor, the late Hugh Gregg, in October 2003, detailing the historical significance of the New Hampshire Primary. He also appears in /Winning New Hampshire/, a documentary film released in 2004.
As part of the event, Director of Political Action Don Gorman will present the coveted Legislator of the Year Award, and release the much-anticipated NHLA 2007 Legislative Report Card.
The NHLA is a non-partisan coalition working to increase individual freedom in New Hampshire. They do this by encouraging private charity, a civil society, and citizen involvement. They also support pro-liberty candidates and causes with money and volunteers.
