Sununu For US Senate - Senator Sununu Discusses Plan For The Economy With Small Business Leaders
Receives U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorsement
Manchester – Senator John Sununu met with New Hampshire small business leaders at a roundtable today to discuss the current economic situation and his plan to help small business. Following the roundtable, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsement of Senator Sununu.
“Today we met with Senator Sununu and discussed the impact of the economic crisis for New Hampshire small businesses,” said Ray Pinard, small business owner and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board Member. “I am confident in Senator Sununu’s decisive leadership in these trying times - he will get the job done and keep taxes low, stop reckless Washington spending, lower energy costs for New Hampshire families and businesses and make health care more accessible and affordable for small businesses.”
Representative of the United States Chamber of Commerce also attended the roundtable and announced their support for Senator Sununu at a press conference following the event.
“In these tough economic times we need John Sununu, a leader in Washington who will keep taxes low- the last thing we need in an economic crisis is someone like Jeanne Shaheen who will raise taxes on small businesses,” said Geoff O’Hara, Regional Director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “This election offers a stark choice between John Sununu who supports policies that will create jobs and spur the economy, and Jeanne Shaheen who supports the tax and spend policies of the past. Every year in Congress, John has voted to keep taxes low, has stood up against pork filled bills including the Bridge to Nowhere, wrote and passed the Internet Access Tax Ban, and has a forward thinking plan to turn around the economy, bring down energy costs and make health care more affordable.”
Senator Sununu discussed his leadership on the economy and expressed his gratitude for the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
“I am honored to have the backing of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce,” said Senator John Sununu. “In this challenging economic environment I have stood up since my first year in the Senate and called for more reform, more oversight and more regulations for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the insurance industry and credit markets . I will continue to provide effective leadership for New Hampshire small businesses by keeping taxes low, standing up against wasteful spending, working to lower energy prices and making health care more affordable.”
Bradley For Congress (CD-1) - Shea-Porter Says 12% Congressional Approval Rating " Doesn't Apply To Me"
Despite thinking Democrats are “100% right”
Manchester, NH – 1st Congressional District Candidates Jeb Bradley and incumbent Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter joined together for the first debate of the 2008 general election today in an event sponsored by AARP. While Jeb Bradley focused on efforts and ideas to reduce taxes, stimulate the economy, improve veteran’s health care, create a comprehensive energy plan and restore public trust in our government, Carol Shea-Porter towed the party line, defending her five week summer vacation, and 100% support for Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Charlie Rangel.
“Congresswoman Shea-Porter claims she found a mess when she went to Washington and worked to clean it up. So, what has she done? The economy is in shambles, consumer confidence is almost non-existent, the only energy plan she’s voted for is one to drill where there is no oil,” says Bradley spokesman Alicia Preston.
Today Carol Shea-Porter addressed the 12% approval rating in Congress-the lowest in history, by saying that it “doesn’t apply to me.” “ To say the approval rating of Congress somehow doesn’t apply to her with a voting record lock-step with Pelosi 100% of the time is not exactly a profile in courage,” Preston said. “During today’s debate she spent a remarkable time focused on defending herself against the vacation she was the deciding vote for in Congress. It brought to mind that old saying “the lady doth protest too much.”
Carol Shea-Porter, trying to defend her “work ethic” in this Congress, claims she works 7 days a week, and that she had 25 events with middle class citizens during her summer vacation. “First of all, if she’s working seven days, and in session five, I’d like to see her time sheet, because that is simply not true. As for her district events for the middle class citizens: she drops in for five minutes and exits stage left before she can take the questions. It’s like Jay Leno giving the opening monologue and then leaving the show.”
Her other repeated and failed claim during the debate was to tie Jeb Bradley to George W. Bush. What Congresswoman Shea-Porter has failed to realize, is that she’s not running against Bush. “I’m sure Congresswoman Shea-Porter would rather be running against Bush, but she isn’t. Jeb Bradley has a strong record of voting in favor of the people of New Hampshire, not the party in Washington, and Carol can’t say the same thing. When it came to energy, environment, veteran’s healthcare, stem cell research, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, social security privatization or illegal immigration, Jeb broke with the Administration and voted for those he represents,” noted Preston. “He will do the same against McCain or Obama when he feels it appropriate.”
Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter admitted to receiving lobbyist money, after running a television ad that claimed otherwise. “She has taken money from lobbyists, millions from big labor and DC special interests. Now that she has been forced to return the lobbyist money, it would be nice to see her do the same with the tainted cash she received from ethically challenged New York Congressman Charlie Rangel,” Preston said.
In contrast to Carol Shea-Porter’s partisan bashing and solution-less discussions of the state of the economy and energy , Jeb Bradley stayed true to himself and his fellow citizens.
"Jeb did a fantastic job. He had a clear understanding not just of the issues, but of how they affect people in New Hampshire. Congresswoman Shea-Porter did a great Nancy Pelosi impression...but, that doesn't help anyone but her Washington colleagues.”

Obama/Biden Campaign - Howard Dean Returns To NH
Manchester, New Hampshire –Former Vermont Governor and current Chairman of the Democratic National Committee , Howard Dean , will return to New Hampshire this Monday for a voter registration drive at Keene State College, a community event with students at Dartmouth College and a Democratic Coordinated Campaign phone bank in Concord.
“ Governor Dean will speak to students, faculty, and Keene community members about the importance of registering to vote this election year” said Sandra Abrevaya, New Hampshire Communications Director. “The stakes in this election are too high for young voters to sit this one out. Whether the issue is reviving our faltering economy, decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, or making higher education affordable to all, Senator Obama and Senator Biden will deliver the change New Hampshire needs.”
“Governor Dean will lay out the very clear choice that New Hampshire students and families have this November between six more years of the failed economic polices of the Bush-Sununu years, or a new direction with Jeanne Shaheen and Barack Obama,” said Kate Bedingfield, communications director for Jeanne Shaheen for Senate. “In addition to talking with students, he will also visit a Democratic Coordinated Campaign phone bank in Concord to join people who are on the phones with New Hampshire voters spreading the message of change on behalf of Barack Obama, Jeanne Shaheen and Democrats up and down the ticket. On November 4th, people across New Hampshire will have the opportunity to stand up, make their voices heard and demand real change.”
The New Hampshire Campaign for Change is engaging students and young voters across New Hampshire and will continue to do so in the remaining weeks. Sununu For US Senate - ICYMI: Rudman Says Sununu Best Pick In Crisis
Rudman Says Sununu Best Pick In Crisis
Nashua Telegraph
October 10, 2008
A former U.S. senator from New Hampshire called U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu better prepared than anyone to help oversee the Wall Street buyout of troubled assets.
Warren Rudman, a popular, two-term moderate Republican from Hollis, endorsed Sununu and said Democratic rival Jeanne Shaheen, as governor, failed to resolve the education finance crisis still gripping the state.
"It is my belief that in the next year Congress will be dominated by serious economic judgments and nobody is better prepared than John Sununu to do what needs to be done," Rudman said Thursday during a conference call with New Hampshire reporters and Sununu.
Rudman's law firm was retained to investigate accounting irregularities at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored enterprises that collapsed last month and held interests in more mortgages than any other U.S. entity.
"He was one of the lone voices that pointed out the situation with Fannie and Freddie was very dangerous that government ought to improve this regulation," Rudman said of Sununu.
And Rudman agreed with Sununu that Capitol Hill Democrats killed reform of Fannie and Freddie at a time when reform could have cut the impact of this financial crisis on middle-class families.
"It was the Democrats in Congress that shut that down," Rudman said. "Everyone knew they were being pressured to lend money, offer financing to people that didn't deserve credit."
…..
Sununu said his vote as one of only 15 originally against the now-infamous "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska was with Rudman in mind as the co-author of the landmark federal budget deficit law along with former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm.
"When I cast that vote, I'm thinking about Warren Rudman and the kind of fiscal responsibility he championed while serving New Hampshire," Sununu said.
"All Jeanne Shaheen has talked about is reining in spending. When she was governor, she doubled state spending."
Rudman defended Sununu's vote for the $700 billion Wall Street buyout that it had to happen to put the economy on the road to recovery. Shaheen opposed the bill because she said it lacked tough enough oversight, needed more taxpayer protections and contained $150 billion in tax cuts that weren't paid for.
"To vote no is essentially put your head in the sand and let them fail," Rudman said.
The ex-senator also opposed ending of the Bush tax cuts now especially with the country facing a serious recession. Shaheen supports doing away with them and raising taxes on individuals making more than $250,000 a year.
"It is my view in this economic crisis right now any tax increases is probably a very poor idea," Rudman added. "A recession is the worst possible time. I might want to look at it a year or two from now."
