McConnell voter ID amendment in Immigration Bill

My name is Stacey Gates and I work with People For the American Way in Washington DC. Senators may be taking a vote this week on a voter ID amendment to the immigration bill offered by Sen. Mitch McConnell. The vote could come as early as this evening. It could be a really close vote, and Sen. Sununu’s vote against the McConnell amendment is needed.

Voter ID laws suppress the vote of elderly and rural voters, who often do not have the necessary government-issued photo ID – nor the resources to pay for getting the documentation (e.g. birth certificates, etc.). Please encourage your readers to put in calls/emails to Sen. Sununu asking that he vote against this provision which could disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people in New Hampshire. People For the AmericanWay has set up a handy page for people to e-mail their senators asking them to vote against the McConnell amendment.

If you’d like more information about the amendment, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
