Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Communication Director Harrell Kirstein released the following statement on the New Hampshire Republican Party's embarrassing attacks on members of their own Republican caucus and legislation they sponsored, SB152.

"Only a Republican Party Chair like Jennifer Horn with more than 92,000 dollars in unpaid taxes wouldn't be embarrassed by the hypocritical and dishonest statements coming out of the NHGOP. It is impossible to take anything she says seriously. She continues to make pathetic attacks against legislation co-sponsored by Republicans, supported from the majority of Republicans in the State Senate, and dozens of Republicans in the State House."

NHGOP STATEMENT ON HASSAN'S EMBARRASSING CASINO DEFEAT

Concord - New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Jennifer Horn released the following statement on the Democrat-controlled New Hampshire House rejecting Governor Hassan's irresponsible casino revenue scheme:

"Governor Hassan has suffered an embarrassing and politically damaging defeat at the hands of her own party. The governor's illegal casino revenue scheme was so irresponsible that even the Democrat controlled House of Representative would not support it despite months of intense lobbying from her incompetent administration. Hassan has failed her first test of leadership in the corner office, and demonstrated that she lacks the skills, vision and gravitas required to control her own party and effectively govern our state.

"The governor gambled with New Hampshire's future by basing her budget on $80 million in casino licensing fees even though there was never any proof that gaming legislation would pass the Legislature. Now her fiscally irresponsible house of cards has collapsed, damaging her credibility and leaving her budget proposal in shambles. It is time for the governor to go back to the drawing board and work with the Legislature on a new plan that will keep taxes low, control spending and protect the New Hampshire Advantage."

NRSC: What's Next? Why is Jeanne Shaheen So Quiet About the IRS Scandal?

Washington, D.C. – Last week, news broke that not only were Jeanne Shaheen, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats guilty of pressuring the IRS to target conservative groups, but the IRS Employees Union gave 93 cents of every dollar donated to Democratic candidates. Washington is entrenched in scandal that reveals the close relationship between Democrats and the IRS, yet after an initial statement, Senator Shaheen – who has received $5,000 from the IRS union – has been quiet.

"Jeanne Shaheen and Senate Democrats - who pressured the IRS to target conservative groups - have an obligation to defend the citizens and organizations that were bullied by their own federal government,” said NRSC Communications Director Brad Dayspring. “Jeanne Shaheen is a United States Senator, and that requires action not just hollow press releases - but she continues to hide behind them."

As the IRS scandal continues to grow, Jeanne Shaheen must answer the following questions:

Does Senator Jeanne Shaheen think an independent special counsel is needed to investigate the IRS efforts?
Will Jeanne Shaheen return the $5,000 in campaign contributions from IRS union?
Does Jeanne Shaheen believe that President Obama should apologize to citizens and groups that were unfairly targeted?
Does Jeanne Shaheen believe that President Obama and other senior White House staffers were wrong to publicly suggest that conservative groups were breaking the law?

NH House Republicans Comment on House Passage of Bill Restricting Fishermen

CONCORD – Today House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett), and members of the House Fish and Game Committee, Assistant House Republican Leader Elisabeth Sanders (R-Danville) and Rep. John Burt (R-Goffstown) offered the following comments in reaction to the passage of SB89, a bill that would restrict the types of tackle New Hampshire fishermen can use, based on anecdotal evidence of loon deaths possibly due to ingesting lead. The bill passed 225-142.

House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett)

“Although it’s very sad that lead may have caused the death of a handful of loons, there is not enough evidence to ban an entire type of tackle that fishermen use. Fishermen come to New Hampshire from all over the region to fish in our lakes and rivers. Fish & Game Department has indicated this law would be nearly impossible to enforce. We need more study before we pass any measure as drastic as this bill. Our state’s sportsmen and outdoor industry deserve as much.”

“Last year’s interim study committee concluded that more time was needed to thoroughly examine this issue and that no legislation should be introduced in 2013. Until we have a conclusive report, this legislation is premature.”

“After spending 6 hours listening to committee hearing testimony on SB89, and after much research to learn more facts, I am very disappointed that SB89 passed. It seems that the wishes of our anglers have been replaced with exaggerated tales of disaster. I believe that before more restrictive laws are enacted, additional unbiased studies should take place. The bill did not have the support of the Fish and Game department and commissioners. The average loss of 5-6 adult loons per year due to lead ingestion is tragic. The loss of angler confidence in our legislative decisions may have the unintended consequence of the tragic loss of fishing related revenue.”

“The science behind this legislation is unproven. We shouldn’t base a legislative decision affecting a $1.2 billion industry in New Hampshire on an unproven claim. The majority of our committee supported the recommendation of the Fish and Game Department on every bill, except for SB89. I believe we should have listened to them, the enforcement agency, and not have rushed to pass this bill they say is unenforceable they say won’t save any loons.”

National Review: The EPA’s Conservative Problem

The EPA has an IRS problem.

The agency has rubber-stamped fee-waiver requests from environmentalist groups seeking information, but it denied similar requests from conservative groups, an extensive examination of EPA correspondence suggests. It’s the latest instance in which federal agencies have used their executive authority against perceived political opponents.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained 1,200 pages of EPA correspondence between January 1, 2012, and April 26, 2013, in circumstances that appear to indicate the process is handled unfairly. > Read more
