The Community of Manchester Participates in JR’s TED Prize Wish: the Inside Out Project

Manchester, NH/USA (October 9, 2011)

— The City of Manchester stands united as a community that celebrates our rich blend of cultures and traditions. When TED Prize winner JR announced his wish to turn the world “Inside Out,” inviting people around the globe to share a photo portrait along with a statement about what they stand for, the citizens of Manchester, NH stood up to participate. Over 150 Manchester residents enthusiastically participated in photo sessions for the Manchester Inside Out Group Action, which will take place on Sunday, October 9, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

“We were inspired to participate in JR’s TED Prize wish and demonstrate the Manchester community’s commitment to celebrating our citizens, their diverse backgrounds, talents and strengths. We believe the future for Manchester is limitless.  The excitement around and support for the INSIDE OUT Manchester Group Action has been inspiring; from citizens, property owners and City officials. It is remarkable to engage with others around the world, who are adding their voices and faces to stand publicly for what they believe in. From here to New York to Japan to Tunisia, people are contributing to a global art movement. The Manchester Theme is "The Unexpected" stated Ann Kelley, Lead Organizer of the INSIDE OUT Group Action in Manchester.

About the Inside Out Project

The Inside Out Project is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or as part of a group. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and be made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net/.

The INSIDE OUT project is a creation of the street artist JR, the recipient of the 2011 TED Prize (watch JR's TED talk here).

About the TED Prize

The first TED Prize was awarded in 2005, born out of the TED Conference and a vision by the world's leading entrepreneurs, innovators, and entertainers to change the world – one Wish at a time.

The reward: $100,000, the TED Community's array of talent and expertise, and the leadership of a TED Prize team led by Amy Novogratz. What began as an unparalleled experiment to leverage the resources of the TED Community to spur global change has evolved into one of the most prestigious prizes.

From Bono's the ONE Campaign ('05 recipient) to Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution ('10 recipient), the TED Prize is helping to combat poverty, take on religious intolerance, improve global health, tackle child obesity, advance education, and now inspire art around the world. For more information on the TED Prize, visit www.tedprize.org.

Thank You from Prescott Park

Thanks for a GREAT Season

Greetings!

Thank you. Thank you. And, thank you!

What a season that was. We think it was our best yet, and based on the number of emails we've received from you, we're confident you feel the same.

The season included some of the finest musicians from around the globe, including acts like Taj Mahal, Natalie MacMaster, Shawn Colvin, and Arlo Guthrie, as well as an incredible production of The Wizard of Oz, presented in partnership with The Seacoast Repertory Theatre.

As well, we enjoyed our new offerings of Monday Night Movies, Shakespeare in Prescott Park, a new collaboration with 3S Artspace, and the Arts Alley Pass.

The festival succeeded in breaking both its musical and concert attendance records this summer, and had excited people write in comments like "Thanks for really making Prescott Park such a great perk to already living where we do...we're so lucky!"

On top of this, the festival was honored by the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce with the 2011 Business of the Year Award for collaborative efforts to support others, as well as the impact on our local economy and quality of life.

This Seacoast gem has blossomed thanks to support from the community, corporate sponsorships, memberships, and YOU.

If you haven't had the opportunity yet, and value and applaud our efforts, click here to make a tax-deductible donation to Prescott Park Arts Festival.

A donation is the best way to say you believe in what we do here at the Festival, and you want to help keep us going strong, now and in the future.

Make a donation directly online, or download a donation form to return by mail.

Thanks again for making this the best season ever!

We look forward to bringing you many, many more.
