ALG on Deficit Commission: "We don't have 30 years to balance the budget"

November 11th, 2010, Fairfax, VA—Americans for Limited Government (ALG) President Bill Wilson issued the following statement on the preliminary recommendations of the Obama deficit commission:

"The deficit commission does not contemplate a balanced budget until 2040.  It never contemplates reducing the overall $13.7 trillion debt, which will continue to grow year-on-end.  The American people want to pay down and retire the national debt, not continue to grow it.  We don't have 30 years to balance the budget.

"If Congress does not act to balance the budget and begin reducing the debt immediately, next year the Federal Reserve will become the number one holder of U.S. debt.  Failure to act now will mean the debt will soar past 100 percent of the Gross Domestic Product in just a few short years.  By 2018, if not sooner, our Triple-A credit rating will be downgraded.  In fact, China has already taken the step of downgrading us. The commission's recommendations, if enacted today, would not prevent one of these things from happening, meaning higher costs to paying the debt in the future, and a weaker dollar.  Ultimately, the dollar will lose its special status as the world's reserve currency.

"By failing to outline the consequences of doing nothing, the commission starts out in exactly the wrong place.  Because it does not contemplate the real problems posed by the unsustainable debt, it offers the wrong solutions.  The commission focuses on gradually reducing the deficit, which is the wrong premise, when Congress needs to focus on reducing and eventually paying off the $13.7 trillion national debt.  Before it has even presented its final findings, Obama's commission has failed."

Sunacom.com - Senator Odell - "...balanced budget for the next year will fall apart by early 2011"

In his June 13, 2010 column on Sunacom.com, State Senator Bob Odell writes:

"I predict that the idea we have a balanced budget for the next year will fall apart by early 2011. That is when the numbers will show that the current fix will not deliver a balanced budget for the biennium.

"As so many times before, the Senate supported the new expanded gambling bill by a 14-9 margin. ... Hours later the House killed the bill in a 141-191 vote. So much for expanded gambling in 2010."

NHDP - Chair Ray Buckley's Statement on the House and Senate's Work to Keep the State Budget Balanced

Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement applauding the House and Senate's work to keep the state budget balanced.

"I applaud Democrats in the House and Senate, and Governor Lynch, for their leadership in balancing the state budget without any new tax increases.  Our Democratic majorities continue to be responsible stewards of the state budget during these difficult economic times.

"Although significant cuts were made, essential services New Hampshire's for most vulnerable citizens were protected.

"This is in stark contrast to the Republican leadership, who once again wasted taxpayer dollars playing childish political games and refused to propose real solutions to the serious challenges facing the Granite State.  Their actions today are yet another reminder of why we can't afford a return to reckless Republican budgeting."

NHDP Chair Ray Buckley's Statement on House Democrats' Proposal to Keep NH's Budget Balanced

Concord - Today, House Democrats passed their proposal to keep the state's budget in balance.  NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement praising the efforts of Governor Lynch and Democrats in the House and the Senate for their ongoing hard work on this issue.

"Democrats in the House, Senate, and Governor's office are working diligently to come up with a serious solution to keep New Hampshire's budget in balance."

"The thoughtful and difficult discussion Democrats are having on this important issue stands in stark contrast to the intellectually bankrupt Republican Party."

"It is shameful that Republicans can't even muster the minimal amount of integrity required to propose a real alternative or at least be honest with the public that they don't have one."

"If Republicans are incapable of putting the interests of the Granite State above their own political ambitions, they should step aside and let Democrats keep New Hampshire one of the lowest taxed, lowest spending, best places to live in the country."

"The absurdly vague recommendations proposed by Rep. Kurk are nothing more than political posturing. We can't solve the serious challenges facing our state with political slogans and half-baked ideas. His suggestions are insincere at best. At worst, they represent the clearest example to date of Republican's total disrespect for the taxpayers."

Ayotte For US Senate - My First TV Ad

Last week my campaign began airing its first television ad.

The ad highlights one of the central tenets of my campaign: the need to balance the budget and reduce spending in Washington, and is running on WMUR and statewide on cable.

Washington is spending money at a rate of $400 million an hour, and spending us further into debt. I say enough is enough. I believe we need to balance the budget, eliminate waste, and I was the first candidate in this race to sign the Citizens Against Government Waste “No Pork Pledge” to put an end to the corrupt pork barrel earmarking in Congress.

I know this will not be easy, but as New Hampshire’s Attorney General, I made tough decisions that put criminals behind bars and held corrupt public officials accountable. I will bring that same tough leadership to Washington.

Please visit our website and watch our ad, and share your thoughts and comments with me on Facebook or through my website.

Our initial ad buy will be for $90,000 for two weeks of advertising.  I wanted to ask for your help in keeping the ad running longer.  Please make a contribution today to help keep our advertising going.

I have been campaigning in every county in New Hampshire, recruited thousands of people to help my campaign, and have been working around the clock to get my message to the voters.  But, I need your continued support to make sure my message can be heard loud and clear on the airwaves.  Please click here to donate $25, $50, $100, or more to my campaign today.

Thank you for your continued support, I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail soon.

All the best,
