Concord, NH - Today, the filing period opens for individuals wishing to be delegates to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. New Hampshire Democrats will send 35 delegates to the convention, who will be selected in a process reflecting Democratic National Committee rules.

"The caucuses are a great opportunity to get involved in New Hampshire's long standing tradition of grassroots engagement and President Obama's exciting campaign," said Ray Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

One caucus in each Congressional District will be held on January 14th, 2012 selecting 9 delegates each. New Hampshire Democrats wishing to be delegates to the 2012 Democratic National Convention must attend the caucus for their district.  The caucus for the first Congressional District will be held at the Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, while the caucus for the second Congressional District will be at the IBEW Hall in Concord.  Both caucuses will being promptly at 10 AM.

New Hampshire Democrats can declare their candidacy to be a delegate by completing this form found on www.nhdp.org, signing it, and returning it to the New Hampshire Democratic Party Office, at 105 North State Street in Concord, either in person or by mail by January 6th, 2012.

In accordance with Democratic values, and using recent Census data, the New Hampshire Democratic Party has set Affirmative Action Goals for its convention delegation.  A numeric goal has been set for the Delegation to have twelve (12) representatives of the African American, Latino, Asian Pacific Islander, LGBT, youth, disabled and other historically underrepresented groups, approximately 35% of the total delegates and alternates. Matthew Hancock For NH CD1 US Rep - Announcement of Candidacy for United States House of Representatives

MH Press Releases Logo Matthew Hancock, United States House of Representatives

I am announcing today my candidacy for the United States of House of Representatives in New Hampshire's First Congressional District.

At this moment we face many challenges, but those in Congress apparently lack the will to solve them. People are struggling to get by, but their voices aren't being heard. Real issues that will arise in the long-term have been given the precedence, while ignoring the short-term problems that exacerbate those very issues. The debate has shifted to concerns over our deficit and future debts. Meanwhile, the bond markets are betting on recession, and the cost of borrowing for the federal government has never been lower.

We now have the need for direct investment to put people back to work, and paying for it has never been cheaper. The only thing holding us back is the straw man that has been made out of the debt burden of the future generations of this country. As a 25 year old, I have a direct stake in the short and long-term consequences of Congress' inaction. It is my generation that will make sure the earned benefits that people count on – Medicare and Social Security – will be around for decades to come.

The Republican Party, including the member of that party whom I am running against, has time and time again proven our best interests are not their concern. From votes to effectively end Medicare, to blocking any job-creating programs while not providing alternatives, to bringing this nation's government to the brink of shutdown in order to preserve the interests of the best off among us, there are countless examples of their incompetence and malfeasance.

It is time for someone to hold this seat who will fight for the values of all residents of this state and country. It is for these reasons that I announce my candidacy for United States Congress.

NH House Speaker Responds to News that Governor Lynch Won’t Seek Re-Election

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien today offered the following comments in response to news that Governor John Lynch will not seek a fifth term.

“I want to thank Governor Lynch for his service and look forward with the hope of working with him on important issues, like passing an education funding constitutional amendment and ensuring that the current budget remains in balance.  The Governor has shown a commitment to New Hampshire by stepping up to serve in what is a difficult job for eight years, and has excelled in offering tremendous calm in times of natural disaster, which has been very reassuring for the state.”

“With the Governor leaving, we must now look to find candidates in 2012 who are committed to economic growth through lifting the burden of taxes and regulation on employers and creating jobs, protecting our personal liberties and passing a constitutional amendment to make it harder to raise taxes, hike fees and borrow from our future to spend more.  I am confident that a number of strong candidates will emerge and we will have a vigorous discussion of the issues next year.”
