CHQ - Actor Jon Voight Joins Conservative Activists in the Fight Against Obamacare

Actor Jon Voight will speak to conservative activists at a rally in Washington tomorrow
Washington Times (Inside the Beltway) - "The health care vote looms heavy over the nation in the next 72 hours, like the sword of Damocles or maybe a 500-pound gorilla holding the sword of Damocles. Prepare for media saturation as press and pundits handicap, underestimate and overpackage the confusing legislation that has come to symbolize the agony and/or ecstasy of the democratic process. There will be whirling graphics, vote tallies, time lines, speculation: Broadcasters will treat the vote like an election, the coverage amped up by emotional politicians and the added frisson of 'tea party' street protests at the Capitol, led by, among others, actor Jon Voight."

Shocking Poll in California Senate Race: Democrat Boxer in Dead Heat with Republican Campbell

Another Senate Poll:  McCain-Hayworth race tightening in Arizona
Rasmussen Reports - Sen. John McCain lost his bid for the presidency in 2008, and now it looks like he's fighting for his very political life as the most recent Rasmussen poll shows the Arizona GOP U.S. Senate race is tightening.  McCain's lead over J.D. Hayworth has narrowed to seven points, down from twenty-two in January - and it's now within the poll's margin of error.

Reading tea party leaves
Chicago Tribune (Jonah Goldberg) - "The quest for single-payer health care is not primarily grounded in good economics nor in good politics but in a heartfelt ideological desire for 'social justice.' The constant debate over whether the 'European model' is better than ours often sounds like an empirical debate, but at its core it's a cultural and philosophical argument that stretches back more than a century.
Democrats don't get it
Shreveport Times (Ward P. Minot, Jr.) - Even with the majority of Americans against this massive ObamaCare health reform, President Obama, his administration and the Democratic Congress leaders, Sen. Reid and Speaker Pelosi continue to push this health care reform.

Fox News Poll: 68% say vote out all incumbents
Fox News - "If American voters only had the following two choices on the Congressional ballot -- keep all current lawmakers in office, or get rid of all incumbents in Congress -- what would they do?

"A new Fox News poll asked that question, and the answer could be bad news for incumbents this fall. Sixty-eight percent of voters would oust all incumbents, while 20 percent would keep all lawmakers in office."

CHQ - Conservative Activists Overwhelm Colorado's Caucuses

Outsiders win big in Colorado's caucuses
Denver Daily News - Tuesday's Colorado caucuses followed the overwhelming trend witnessed across America as the state's voters sent a message to the establishments of both the Democrats and Republicans:  you're not going to choose our candidates for us.  Grassroots citizens spoke out against a sitting U.S. Senator (Democrat Michael Bennett) and the national GOP-backed candidate (U.S. Senate contender Jane Norton), giving their 'challengers' an excellent chance to prevail in the August Colorado primary.

Principles and Heresies: Frank S. Meyer and the Shaping of the American Conservative Movement, by Kevin J. Smant (ISI, 425 pp., $29.95)

"For fifty years, most American conservatives have stood for three basic propositions: that American foreign policy should seek to end totalitarian regimes; that the domestic functions of government, and especially of the federal government, should be strictly limited; and that the moral precepts traditionally associated with Christianity (sometimes the formulation includes Judaism as well) should be upheld."

LA Times suddenly wary of judicial activism and spouses
Hot Air (Ed Morrissey) - "I really wish the media would get its story straight on spouses and activism. When Bill Clinton ran for President, the media scolded people who began questioning whether Hillary Clinton would use her influence to shape policy in the White House.

"Suddenly, though, the LA Times and Kathleen Hennessey have a problem with activist wives. Hennessey profiles Virginia 'Ginny' Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and speculates throughout the article that Thomas' work as an activist with Liberty Central may cross lines of judicial objectivity."

Jeff Toobin Disagrees with LA Times on Mrs. Clarence Thomas' activism
Newsbusters - "Jeffrey Toobin disputed the conclusion of the Los Angeles Times on the new political initiative of Clarence Thomas's wife Virginia Thomas, that it 'could give rise to conflicts of interest for her husband...as it tests the norms for judicial spouses.' Toobin defended Mrs. Thomas' grassroots conservative work."

CHQ - Americans Unhappy with Congressional Leadership of Both Parties

Negatives for Congressional leaders reach all-time high
Rasmussen Reports - As the health care debate drones on and on in Congress, Americans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the Congressional leadership of both Parties, a recent Rasmussen poll revealed.  It's no shock that Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are so unpopular, but Minority Leader John Boehner also has reached a new high in unfavorable ratings - demonstrating that citizens are plain fed up with the lack of principles on both sides of the aisle in Congress.
