Manchester Mayor Guinta, community leaders to participate in Homeless Services Center public meeting

MANCHESTER (May 29, 2009) – Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta, Homelessness Services Coordinator Susan Howland, Police Chief David Mara, Heritage United Way President and CEO Patrick Tufts and other city, nonprofit and business leaders will be participating in the Manchester Continuum of Care Homeless Services Center public meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009, at 142 Central St.; Manchester. (This is the future site of the Homeless Services Center).

The public meeting will go into what the Homeless Services Center will provide, the timeline of progress as of now, and the estimated timeline moving forward. In addition, the public will be able to ask participants questions and understand how this center is a cornerstone to address the homeless population in Manchester.

“One of the important benchmarks of the 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness in the City of Manchester is the development of the Homeless Services Center,” Mayor Guinta said. “Previous efforts to provide these services have been successful. However, this is the first collaborative effort to provide multiple services in one location on an ongoing basis. When the center is completed, it will provide constant and sustained services for those in need of permanent housing and other resources to help them to become self-sufficient.”

Other attendees at the event will be members of the Board of Aldermen, Patrick Duffy and Jim Freiburger (members of the organizational task force), members of the Manchester Police Department’s Community Policing Unit, Maureen Ryan from the Bureau of Homeless and Housing Services (New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services), and other members of the Manchester Continuum of Care. Many in attendance will be available to answer questions about the project and other homelessness efforts in the city.
