NHDP - State Senate Republicans Trying to Distract Voters

GOP candidates attempt to deflect attention away from real issues

Concord - In an article published today in the Union Leader, Ryan Williams, spokesman for the NH Republican Party, made false charges about polls carried out over the past few weeks sponsored by the New Hampshire Democratic Party.  The polls, both legal and customary, are just some of many campaign tools that have been used by both political parties for many years.

"These desperate attacks are laughable," said Emily Cashman, Senate Caucus Communications Director with the New Hampshire Democratic Party.  "Polling is conducted all of the time by Republicans and Democrats alike. The fact that the Republicans are so obsessed with these polls shows that they are, yet again, deliberately trying to deflect attention away from the fact that they have no plan to create jobs or improve our economy."

Instead of offering new ideas as to how to move New Hampshire forward, Republicans running for state Senate have been trying to paint themselves as victims and drum up sympathy from voters at a time when Granite Staters are facing real economic challenges.  Just last week, state Sen. David Boutin made headlines when he denounced the loss of a few yard signs as "bordering on criminality" (Union Leader, Sept. 18, 2010).

"Republicans are hoping that their latest publicity stunt will distract voters from the fact that they are not offering any solutions," added Cashman.  "It just doesn't work that way.  Voters are more interested in making sure that we are improving our economy and creating jobs. This latest stunt will make voters across the state even more aware of Republicans' continued political scheming, and they won't be fooled by this sorry attempt to distract them.  It's clear that these candidates aren't looking out for the best interests of their constituents, and they'll undoubtedly be held accountable in November."

Sunacom.com - Senator Odell - "...balanced budget for the next year will fall apart by early 2011"

In his June 13, 2010 column on Sunacom.com, State Senator Bob Odell writes:

"I predict that the idea we have a balanced budget for the next year will fall apart by early 2011. That is when the numbers will show that the current fix will not deliver a balanced budget for the biennium.

"As so many times before, the Senate supported the new expanded gambling bill by a 14-9 margin. ... Hours later the House killed the bill in a 141-191 vote. So much for expanded gambling in 2010."

NetRight Daily: Today's Top News from NRN

Pay No Attention to the Debt:  If government-owned-and-operated Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's net liabilities of about $6.3 trillion were added to the national debt, it would total about $18.7 trillion today. That's a whopping 129 percent of the nation's Gross Domestic Product, which currently stands at $14.463 trillion.

NYT Lumps Tea Party Activists with Fringe Elements:  There's a good report on the Tea Party movement struggling to break through some of the snide, superfluous commentary that works its way into reports about beleaguered American taxpayers who have found expression.

Art Imitating Life or Vice Versa?:  When a company devotes millions of dollars to the production and airing of a Super Bowl ad, they are at the mercy of several factors – one of those being an exciting game if you happen to have a spot airing in the fourth quarter.

The Virtue of a Nation:  We elect, or hope to elect, the best and brightest among us. The best businessmen, the most diplomatic statesmen, the most knowledgeable of Constitutional scholars. These people are the public face of America. Between Congress' nasty remarks about their own constituents, Mr. Obama's remarks during his State of the Union address and the recent remarks of Mr. Rahm Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff, regarding moderate democrats, the public face of America is now a portrait of uncouth and thoughtless behavior.
