Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Family Assistance will host a meeting with staff from food pantries around the State on Tuesday, April 26th at the Boscawen Town Hall in Boscawen. The main topic of discussion will focus on how food pantries are coping with the extremely challenging economic environment coupled with the increased demands on food pantries. Speakers will include representatives from the NH Food Bank and Community Action Agencies. This meeting provides an opportunity for food pantry staff to network, ask questions and share best practices.

MSBW will focus on providing resources and information for all Manchester Small Business Owners to help them grow and prosper

Manchester, NH – The City of Manchester’s Economic Development Office (MEDO) and the Mayor’s Office are proud to announce the 1^st Annual Manchester Small Business Week presented by Citizens Bank.  Manchester Small Business Week (MSBW) will take place from Monday, May 16^th – Friday, May 20^th and will feature a full-week of programs and events that celebrate the contributions that small businesses make to the City’s economy while providing small business owners with the information and resources they need to be successful.  “Manchester is home to thousands of small businesses which are vital to our City’s economy and tax base.  Small Business Week is one way the City can showcase our dedication to assisting our small businesses to grow and prosper and attract new businesses to the Queen City,” stated Mayor Ted Gatsas.

The City’s Economic Development Office has partnered with Manchester businesses and many local and statewide business resource organizations to create the week’s schedule.  MSBW will kick-off on Monday, May 16^th with a Luncheon Reception at Southern New Hampshire University and Small Business Resource Fair.  To recognize expanding and innovative Manchester small businesses, MSBW will feature the Mayor’s Small Business Awards, which will honor Manchester small businesses in three separate categories: Growth, Innovation and Community Service.  The award winners will be recognized at a Small Business Recognition Breakfast on Friday, May 20^th.  MEDO is now accepting nominations for the Mayor’s Award.  To nominate a company please visit http://www.yourmanchesternh.com/smallbusinessweek/.aspx for a nomination form.  Nominations will be accepted until Friday, March 25^th.

How can you tell when a president is in trouble on a big issue? 

When politicians of his own party avoid appearing with him when he's in their home area.

Take yesterday. President Obama appeared in the Philadelphia suburbs to once again campaign for his health care takeover.  He delivered the usual falsehoods - for example, Fox News reported that the president claimed $868 billion in savings that is simply a made-up number. He promised that his plan will not cost small businesses more, when everyone knows costs will skyrocket on small businesses.

And three Democrat congressmen from the Philly area - Murphy, Carney and Holden - did not appear with the president from their own party. 

These three Democrats did not stand beside President Obama on their home turf, despite the fact that Obama carried Pennsylvania and their region in the 2008 election. 

They know what we know: The American people have turned against this corrupt Washington health care takeover. The polls clearly show it, with every reputable poll showing strong majorities against the legislation. These congressmen have their ears to the ground in their districts, and they hear the powerful grassroots anger. It’s anger against the president's arrogance in continuing to push a health care takeover while ignoring job losses and a still-faltering economy, despite the fact that the American people have clearly said, “Keep Your Hands Off My Health Care.”

We're just days away from a crucial vote in the House of Representatives. Despite all the big talk from Speaker Pelosi and the liberals, they STILL DO NOT HAVE THE VOTES to pass their health care takeover.

Here's the bottom line. The president is in the midst of his final all-out push for his health care takeover. Yes, his campaign is dishonest and over-the-top. But, to their credit they are refusing to quit this fight. So, we've got to beat them in these final days before the House vote.

They've put everything on the line for their ideology, as flawed as it is. 

The question for us is:  will we do the same for our values, our freedoms and our nation?

Knowing what I know about Americans like us, I believe the answer will be a resounding YES.

STRAFFORD COUNTY DEMOCRATS ANNUAL PICNIC SET FOR SEPT. 13

DOVER – Elected officials, candidates and Democrats of all ages will mix and mingle as they enjoy traditional picnic fare, musical entertainment, fun, games and swimming at the Strafford County Democratic Committee’s annual picnic Sunday, Sept. 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the home of Salme and Ken Perry, 380 Rollins Rd. in Rollinsford. The Strafford County Democratic picnic is traditionally a highlight of the political season on the Seacoast.

“New Hampshire is all about grass roots politics,” Strafford County Democratic chair Caitlin Daniuk of Rollinsford said, “Our victories in 2008 were the result of hard work by hundreds of local activists who supported our candidates. This year’s picnic is a great opportunity to celebrate, catch up with friends and talk about the future in a family-friendly social setting.”
