Carol Shea-Porter statement on NH AG settlement with Rep. Frank Guinta's 2010 campaign polling consultant

New Hampshire-   Former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement about the New Hampshire Attorney General’s settlement with Rep. Frank Guinta’s 2010 campaign polling consultant, OnMessage, Inc..

“Frank Guinta ran a nasty push poll against me in 2010 and his campaign consultants, OnMessage, Inc., illegally did not tell people that Mr. Guinta paid for that poll. I always knew every detail about every poll I paid for. That's called accountability and oversight. Saying you didn't know your consultants were breaking the law isn't good enough. ”

ALG on $7.4 Billion 'America Competes Act': "More Corporate Welfare After Omnibus Defeated is Outrageous"

December 17th, 2010, Fairfax, VA—Americans for Limited Government (ALG) President Bill Wilson today issued the following statement in opposition to HR 5116, a bill with $7.4 billion in new spending sponsored by Senator Jay Rockefeller and cosponsored by Senators Lamar Alexander, Kay Bailey Hutchison and Jeff Bingaman:

"Not a day after the American people demanded that the wasteful spending come to an end with the omnibus bill, the Senate is already back to its old tricks.  Now the so-called 'America Competes Act' has been put on the fast track to get unanimous authorization by the Senate.  This is just more corporate welfare, even after omnibus was defeated, and it is outrageous.  Where are the spending cuts the American people were promised?

"The programs funded in the bill, including increased spending of $7.4 billion for research grants, 'green' jobs and other items, are really irrelevant.  No non-essential programs should be getting any additional funding while the nation has a $13.8 trillion national debt that cannot be paid.

"After November, it is no longer Congress' job to borrow and spend billions of dollars it doesn't have.  Now, its job is to cut spending and to find a way to reduce the national debt so that we can return to a sustainable path as a nation.  This $7.4 billion in new spending is completely unnecessary.  There should be no new spending for unessential items like this.  If the Senate cannot defeat smaller spending items, how will it tackle the larger ones? This is not what the American people voted for in November.

"If Congress cannot find a way to reduce spending and cut wasteful programs, the $13.8 trillion debt will soon be larger than the entire economy.  Next year, the Federal Reserve will be the number one lender in the entire world to the government — more than China — with over $1 trillion of printed money.  Moody's has warned that it may downgrade its outlook to negative next year, and it could downgrade the Triple-A credit rating by 2018 if not sooner.  Since there is a large bipartisan consensus not to increase taxes in this recession, that means our fiscal house can be brought into order with spending cuts.  This $7.4 billion in new spending should be defeated."

NRSC - Thank You

This morning I had the honor of being re-elected to the post as National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman. I appreciate the strong support from all of my Republican colleagues, and especially our 13 new Republican Senators, as we continue our campaign to win back a Senate Republican majority in 2012. Continuity at the NRSC is something we haven’t had in a while, and which we need to build on our victories in 2010.

Two years ago, few would have imagined that Senate Republicans would win seven Democrat-held Senate seats, while successfully defending every single Republican Senate seat. And over the last two years, we were successful in adding nearly 400,000 new, first-time donors to the NRSC, we strengthened relationships with our longtime supporters and ultimately raised over $100 million. In fact, just last month, the NRSC raised $14.2 million, which represented the highest monthly total since the passage of McCain-Feingold in 2002.

We couldn't have done any of that without you. I want to sincerely thank you for everything you did this past year to elect more Republicans to the U.S. Senate. It was your donations, your participation in the process and your vote that brought change to Washington and now we will get to work for you.

The key now is to build on our success, while applying lessons learned from the 2010 campaign. I believe Republicans are strongest when we stick together, and I continue to adhere to the words of William F. Buckley, who famously said: 'I am for the most conservative candidate that can get elected.' But I recognize that Republican primary voters choose our nominees, and I am committed to listening to the message you the voters sent this past year.

I look forward to a constructive dialogue over the weeks and months ahead. And I especially look forward to continuing to work together and regaining a Senate Republican majority in 2012.

Sincerely,
Sen. John Cornyn
NRSC Chairman
