Ashooh Hires Campaign Manager

MANCHESTER – Today, Republican candidate Rich Ashooh announced that he has hired Jay Flanders to be campaign manager for his First Congressional District race.

“There are few people in New Hampshire more experienced in politics and campaigns than Jay Flanders,” said Ashooh.  “Jay will play a vital role in my organization and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the campaign.  I’m fortunate to have someone of his caliber leading my team.”

Flanders has a long history in Republican campaigns.  Most notably, Flanders was the campaign manager for Chuck Morse’s successful primary race for Executive Council in 2006, and statewide field director for Bruce Keough’s campaign for governor in 2002.  He has served as the deputy chief of staff and policy director to the State Senate, as a policy advisor to Gordon Humphrey’s gubernatorial campaign in 2000, managed several State Senate campaigns, and has coordinated numerous grassroots initiatives throughout the Granite State.  Flanders most recently worked for the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, a free market think tank, where he directed the Center’s Transparency Project.

NetRight Daily: The Health Care Summit

We have a round-up posted with all sorts of information on today's Health Care Summit as well as a live feed of what is going on. Be sure to check it out! Here are today's top stories on NetRight Nation and other relevant information:

Senate Judiciary Committee Should Delay DOJ Nominee Shawn Johnsen:  Americans for Limited Government (ALG) President Bill Wilson today in a letter urged members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to delay the confirmation of a controversial nomination to the Justice Department by Barack Obama until it can be confirmed whether the nominee violated the law.

Republican's Divided:  At a time when the political winds should be at their back the Republican Party may be ill-poised to make the electoral gains conventional wisdom and history dictate they should at this fall's midterm elections.

The GOP: A Time For Truth:  In his latest generic ballot question, Rasmussen Reports show Republicans holding a substantial 44 to 35 percent lead over Democrats for the 2010 Congressional elections. In fact, the poll shows that Republicans have led consistently since June 28th, 2009, just two days after the House passed its onerous legislation capping carbon emissions and taxing energy consumption.

Evan Bayh Described As Centrists Despite Health Care Stance:  When Evan Bayh announced that he would not seek another term as U.S. Senator from Indiana, The New York Times was quick to fix the centrist label on him. Although his state leans Republican, Bayh was a consistent winner, popular among constituents, well-liked across party lines and frequently eyed as a candidate for national office.

The Constitution, The Declaration, And Me:  Last Wednesday, I flew out to Washington DC to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). But this trip was rendered eminently worthwhile for me well before the speeches and panel sessions began the next day.

NHDP - Statement from Democratic Party Chair Raymond Buckley on John Stephen's Announcement

Concord -- "The voters will reject John Stephen for the third time because they know he can't be trusted, he can't get things done, and because he puts his political needs ahead of the needs of the people of New Hampshire," Buckley said.

"In announcing his plans to run for Governor, Stephen claimed he was running as a fiscal conservative. But his record tells another story," Buckley said.

"John Stephen claims he is a fiscal conservative, but that's not his record," Buckley said. "He asked for astronomical budget increases; he repeatedly demonstrated fiscal incompetence and put his political ambitions ahead of the people of New Hampshire."

Buckley pointed to just two examples of Stephen's fiscal irresponsibility. In 2004, as Health and Human Services, Stephen asked for an 11 percent increase in his budget. In 2006, he asked for a 13 percent -- or half-a-billion dollar increase.

Chris Sununu Statement on Salem Toll Booth Proposal

SUNUNU TO HOLLINGWORTH:
NO SALEM TOLL BOOTH

PROPOSED SALEM TOLL BOOTH WILL “DESTROY” SMALL BUSINESSES AND THE REGION’S RETAIL ECONOMY

EXETER – Today, Chris Sununu, Republican candidate for the District 3 Executive Council seat, issued the following statement:

“NHDOT Commissioner George Campbell’s scheme to erect a toll booth in Salem, New Hampshire is terribly misguided and will destroy the retail economy that supports the southern region of our state.  What’s worse, Bev Hollingworth and John Lynch are allowing Campbell, who was never elected by voters, to dictate a policy agenda without considering the interests of the residents and small business owners who live and operate along the southern border. That should never happen.

“Bev Hollingworth’s ‘go along to get along’ style is not what citizens deserve.  These are tough economic times, and the last thing our state’s small businesses need is another tax.  Make no mistake; a toll booth on Interstate-93 in Salem is a tax. It’s a tax on small businesses that depend on consumers who cross the border to shop, and it’s a tax on commuters who live in New Hampshire and drive to Massachusetts for their jobs.

“Hollingworth approved the state’s 10-year highway plan having never considered the full costs, and now she wants to raise revenue on the backs of New Hampshire’s commuters and small businesses to pay for her short-sightedness.

“The residents of District 3 do not want a toll booth in Salem and they deserve an Executive Councilor who will hold the governor and his bureaucrats accountable.  In the Council, I will not be afraid to lead on difficult issues, and I will not hesitate to stand-up to unelected agency heads who try to circumvent the will of the people.”

Executive Council District 3 consists of the following cities and towns: Atkinson, Barrington, Brentwood, Chester, Danville, Dover, Durham, East Kingston, Epping, Exeter, Fremont, Greenland, Hampstead, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kensington, Kingston, Lee, Madbury, New Castle, Newfields, Newington, Newmarket, Newton, North Hampton, Nottingham, Plaistow, Portsmouth, Rye, Salem, Sandown, Seabrook, South Hampton, Stratham, and Windham.
