NH House Speaker Comments on Election Results for NH House

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien (R-Mont Vernon) today offered the following comments regarding the election results for the New Hampshire House.

“I want to congratulation the Democrats for doing an outstanding job for motivating and turning out their voters yesterday.  From the top of the ticket to the bottom, they were able to change the dynamics of the election and that has led them to an incoming majority.”

“My focus in the House will remain directed on working to deliver a low tax, job-friendly state that maximizes our personal freedoms.  I look forward to working with our new House Republican leader to accomplish this goal, as I also intend on working to grow our New Hampshire economy by reinvigorating my law practice and rebuilding a client base that has shown great patience with me in my detour as House Speaker these last two years.  We are a citizen legislature, and every representative balances the responsibility of serving the people with his or her professional and civic duties.”

Carol Shea-Porter Wins Third Term in Congress

Manchester, NH – Yesterday, Granite Staters in the First District voted to send Carol Shea-Porter back to Washington for a third term in Congress.  When Carol Shea-Porter was first elected in 2006, she was the first woman from the state of New Hampshire to serve in federal office. She will now be part of the nation’s first all-female delegation.

“I am honored to have the trust of the voters in the First District, and I pledge to work closely with Congresswoman-elect Kuster and Senators Shaheen and Ayotte to help move New Hampshire and this country forward,” Carol Shea-Porter said.

Durham Presidential Election Results - 11/6/12 | Durham Shatters Its Own Record for Same Day Registrations (over 3,000 registrations in 12 hrs)

A thank you is extended to Town Moderator Chris Regan, Town Clerk/Tax Collector Lorrie Pitt, Supervisor Chairperson Ann Shump, Supervisor Judy Aikens, Supervisor Roni Pekins, and to the many, many other faithful volunteer election workers and officials who pulled together to make today’s Presidential election in Durham success. In total, 7,387 ballots (unofficial) were cast over the course of the day today at the Oyster River High School.  In 2008, a total of approximately 8,000 ballots were cast.

Durham shattered its own record for registering voters on Election Day. In all, 3,024 people registered just before casting their ballots - about 1,300 more than registered on the same day of the presidential election in 2008. To put this in perspective, during the 12 hours the polls were open on Tuesday, Durham added more new voters to its rolls than most New Hampshire towns and cities (two thirds of them) already had pre-registered before the election.  

The poll in Durham is the largest single polling location in Strafford County.
