CEI Daily - Human Achievement Hour, High-Speed Rail, and Hilda Solis

Human Achievement Hour

CEI will celebrate our annual "Human Achievement Hour" on Saturday, March 26, from 8:30 pm to 9:30---during the World Wildlife Fund's "Earth Hour."

Policy Analyst Michelle Minton explains the purpose of Human Achievement Hour.

"HAH is an annual event meant to recognize that this is the greatest time to be alive and that we have come so far only because people have been free to use their minds and the resources in their environment to experiment, create, and innovate. Participants in HAH recognize the necessity to protect the individuals from government coercion in order to continue innovating and improving our lives and the world around us."

High Speed Rail

Advocates of high-speed rail projects claim that the projects will create new American jobs.

Policy Analyst Marc Scribner responds.

"The United States would probably be better off using the “stimulus” ARRA funds to pay thousands of people to dig one hole and then fill another. At least then future generations would be spared from having to keep these trains to nowhere on government life support for perpetuity."

Hilda Solis

In a speech over the weekend, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis confessed that she's biased toward unions.

Policy Analyst Vincent Vernuccio reacts to Solis' admission.

"Solis, Obama, and the DNC union favoritism is not new, but the brazen talk of an open bias is shocking. The lack of impartiality shows that business and non-union workers cannot get equal or fair treatment by this administration."

NRN Blog Alert: Action Needed on Hate Crimes Bill

Dear Fellow Blogger,

The Obama push to force through his biased "hate crime" legislation just went into high gear -- and we need to alert all of our readers to call their Senators now!

Here is the urgent note I just received from Lanier Swann, the special assistant to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell:

Friends,

Moments ago Majority Leader Reid filed a hate crimes amendment to the DOD Authorization Bill. He then filled the tree, which means no amendments can be offered to his amendment, and filed cloture on the amendment.

Thanks,

Lanier

In other words, Reid -- under the thumb of Obama and Holder -- is attaching the bill to an unrelated defense bill, in order to force senators to vote for it if they want to protect our troops. He is allowing no amendments. And he is calling for cloture to rush the bill through before any debate can take place.

As I pointed out yesterday in the column by ALG Executive Editor Carter Clews, the Obama "hate crimes" bill may be one of the most dangerously bigotted pieces of class warfare legislation ever to come before Congress.

We need to stop it now. So, please sound the alarm to all of your readers!

NRN Blog Alert: Hate Crimes Bill in Congress

Fellow Bloggers,

While the Sonia Sotomayor hearings are progressing this week, some politicians are also trying to sneak through a Hate Crimes bill that will destroy equal justice. NetRight Nation is staying up to speed on the issue and has just released a story on the matter.

Click here to read about the Hate Crimes bill that the Senate does not want you to know about.

The bill has already been brought to the floor of the Senate, so make sure to cover this on your blogs! Please urge and alert your readers about this issue and have them call their Senators. The number for the Senate switch board is 202-225-3121.
