NH DHHS - Roadmap to End Childhood Hunger

Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services

(DHHS) joined the Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire in releasing the New

Hampshire Roadmap to End Childhood Hunger, a systemic guide to tackling the

root causes of childhood hunger. The Roadmap was created through a

year-long effort by a diverse coalition of anti-hunger and child advocates,

business and community leaders known as New Hampshire Hunger Solutions. Key

staff from the WIC Nutrition Program and the Obesity Prevention Program at

DHHS participated in development of the guide over a period of one year.

The Roadmap was released at the Henniker Community School, where the work

of community partners and funders was recognized.

There is a critical need to address childhood hunger in the State, while

highlighting the steps outlined in the Roadmap to achieve lasting change.

The Roadmap is the first statewide plan of its kind in New Hampshire to

outline steps in the effort to end childhood hunger. The Division of Public

Health Services is committed to continuing the partnership with the

Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire to address availability of nutrition

benefits from food and nutrition resources like the WIC Program and to

collaborate with other federally funded nutrition programs in order to

improve access to affordable healthy food.

“Public health nutrition programs, such as WIC, the Commodity Supplemental

Food Program, and the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, provide

connections for children and adults to the healthy food they need every

day,” said Dr. José Montero, director of the Division of Public Health

Services at DHHS. “When children are hungry, they are more likely to have

chronic health problems. Hunger also impedes their ability to learn and

succeed in school.”

According to the report, one in four cities in New Hampshire is at high

risk for food insecurity or the inability to access affordable healthy

food. One in five households with children experiences food insecurity. The

New Hampshire Roadmap to End Childhood Hunger recognizes the changes that

communities need to make to ensure that no child goes hungry. To review the

roadmap, go to

NH DHHS Food Stamp Clients Receive Replacement Benefits Due to ‘Superstorm Sandy’

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services

(DHHS) Division of Family Assistance (DFA) is announcing that the

Department is replacing Food Stamp benefits to clients affected by the

widespread power outages during the past week. Towns all over the State

suffered severe power outages as a result of the recent storm. Many homes

in the affected communities lost food creating a critical need for food

assistance.

"People receiving food stamps on October 29, 2012 who have lost food due to

power outages may have their benefits replaced in an amount that is equal

to their loss of food," said Terry Smith, Director of DHHS's Division of

Family Assistance. "To replace benefits, we will require a signed

affidavit and some sort of proof that the client lives in an area that lost

power."

Recipients may not receive a replacement amount any larger than their

October issuance of food stamps.

USDA Food and Nutrition Service has granted a waiver that allows Food Stamp

recipients to request replacement as late as Wednesday, November 28th. To

request food stamp replacement benefits, please call your local District

Office.

Food Stamps is a federal nutrition program that is managed by the State's

Debt drags down growth in U.S., advanced economies

After a century of telling us savings and fiscal prudence was the enemy, we have come full circle, and now the banking cartel is declaring that all of the debt it has issued may have not been such a good idea after all.

ALG - Obama's legacy: 107 million government dependents and rising

Aug. 9, 2012, Fairfax, VA—Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today released the following statement responding to research from Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions (R-AL) showing that more than 107 million Americans are on some form of means-tested government welfare:

"Obama's legacy is an America that is less well off, more impoverished, and increasingly dependent on a government that has dwindling resources and a $16 trillion debt that is too big to be repaid. He will go down in history as the president that put us back on welfare.

"Since Obama has taken office, eligibility for Medicaid, food stamps, the earned income tax credit, the making work pay tax credit, and unemployment benefits have increased by millions—until today when there are more than 107 million Americans dependent on the government for sustenance. That is an increase of roughly 10 million in less than four years.

"To add insult to injury, Obama then unilaterally dismantled the work requirements that were the heart of the 1990's welfare reform via an arbitrary executive order. This is a man who wants Americans to be dependent on government. What a disgrace."
