ALG's Daily Grind - California's self-inflicted gas shortage

California's self-inflicted gas shortage

They can't blame Big Oil for this one!

Cartoon: Debate aftermath

Obama takes stock of his dismal debate performance.

Obama's fuzzy math on taxes

While Romney's tax plan might result in higher deficits before other considerations were made such as spending cuts or jobs growth, it is a bald-faced lie to say it will result in higher taxes.

Romney Campaign Should Take Note of European Fatigue with Green Energy

As Europe dials back its carbon emission restrictions, it's time to eliminate green energy subsidies once and for all.

Guinta For Congress - Shea-Porter's lack of an energy policy

SHEA-PORTER’S LACK OF AN ENERGY POLICY WOULD FORCE GRANITE STATERS TO PAY MORE AT THE PUMP

“Former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter’s lack of a clear position of how she would address rising fuel costs might have a lot to do with her abysmal record on energy issues.”

(Manchester – September 8, 2012) Gas prices are on the rise as the New Hampshire average for a gallon of gas is $3.85 and climbing. However, Granite Staters would be hard-pressed to learn what former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter would do to lower costs. And when you look at her record in Congress, her policies would only make gas prices increase.

Frank Guinta has championed an all of the above domestic energy policy (and has voted accordingly) that would lower fuel costs. Yet, whether you look at Carol Shea-Porter website or even an independent analysis from a local newspaper on the Seacoast, the former Congresswoman’s lack of any plan for a national energy policy is striking.

For any glimpse of what Carol Shea-Porter believes with regards to energy, one only has to look to her record. For instance, she has been a strong opponent of both on-shore and off-shore domestic oil exploration and has been vocally opposed to the energy and job creating Keystone XL Pipeline.  You can watch video of the former Congresswoman's opposition to the Keystone XL Pipeline
  here, too.

Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Guinta for Congress released the following statement:

“Middle-class Granite Staters are reaching deeper into their pockets to fill their gas tanks and seniors are beginning to worry about how they will heat their homes as winter quickly approaches.

“New Hampshire voters are certainly concerned about this important issue, but former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has little substance to offer on how she would address it. Her lack of a clear position of how she would deal with rising fuel costs might have a lot to do with her abysmal record on energy issues.”

CEI Today: Ethanol & gas prices, highway bill, and Law of the Sea Treaty

HIGHWAY BILL - MARC SCRIBNER

CEI.org:
Coalition Letter to Surface Transportation Bill Conferees

CEI signed a coalition letter to House and Senate members of the conference committee of the surface transportation reauthorization bill in which we expressed our concern over provisions that limit states' ability to toll their highways.

In the current era of severely constrained investment resources for surface transportation at all levels of government, states and metropolitan regions should be afforded greater flexibility to fund and finance their transportation facilities and networks. Congress does not seem inclined to raise funding for surface transportation through increasing federal motor fuels taxes or by replacing those taxes with other dedicated funding. In the absence of new funding sources, at a minimum, Congress should provide states and metropolitan regions with the tools to develop and expand their potential sources of revenue and investment capital. To that end, federal barriers to state innovation and flexibility should be substantially reduced, and no new ones should be erected.>Read the coalition letter on CEI.org

ETHANOL & GAS PRICES - MARLO LEWIS

Globalwarming.org:
Ethanol Reduced Gas Prices by $1.09/g – Or Didn’t You Notice?

Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) has just updated its 2009 and 2011 studies of ethanol’s impact on gasoline prices. CARD claims that from January 2000 to December 2011, “the growth in ethanol production reduced wholesale gasoline prices by $0.29 per gallon on average across all regions,” and that in 2011 ethanol lowered gasoline prices by a whopping $1.09 per gallon.

I’m no econometrician, but this study does not pass the laugh test. We’re supposed to believe that ethanol has conferred a giant boon on consumers even though gasoline prices have increased as ethanol production has increased, and even though gas prices hit their all-time high when ethanol production hit its all-time high. If that is success, what would failure look like? > Read the full commentary on Globalwarming.org

LAW OF THE SEA TREATY - IAIN MURRAY

Openmarket.org: Let’s Lose LOST

The Law of the Sea Treaty would drastically undermine American sovereignty, giving massive powers to the U.N. (aka the Dictators’ Club of New York), but the Senate is actually considering passing it — get this — as a tribute to Dick Lugar, whose voters unceremoniously dumped him last week. Seriously, couldn’t they just give him a medal? This is enough to make me think the House of Lords is a good idea.  > Read the full commentary at Openmarket.org

Ten Thousand Commandments 2012

An Annual Snapshot of the Federal Regulatory State
May 15, 2012

The scope of federal government spending and deficits is sobering. Yet the government’s reach extends well beyond the taxes Washington collects and its deficit spending and borrowing. Federal environmental, safety and health, and economic regulations cost hundreds of billions—perhaps trillions—of dollars every year over and above the costs of the official federal outlays that dominate the policy debate.

RNC - Gas Prices In NH - Upward spiral of per gallon cost continuing

Just last week, despite rising gas prices, VP Biden claimed in an interview with WAVY-TV in Virginia that “our energy policy is the best it’s ever been.”

This week, as he heads to New Hampshire,  here is one of the headlines welcoming him...

Average retail gasoline prices in New Hampshire rose 5.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.85 per gallon Sunday.

In Maine, average retail gasoline prices rose 8.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.98 per gallon Sunday.

This compares with the national average that increased 1.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.9 per gallon, according to gasoline price website NewHampshireGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in New Hampshire during the past week, prices Sunday were 21.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and 15.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. In Maine during the past week, prices Sunday were 22.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and 15.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has increased 16.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 17.2 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"Gasoline prices in the hardest hit areas have finally shown signs of relief, with gasoline prices falling now in Chicago as they have for a few weeks in California," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "We're beginning to see refinery utilization rise, indicating refineries are coming out of maintenance and boosting production. If we continue to see utilization rise at domestic refineries, we may see an earlier peak than we have in prior years, " DeHaan said.
