KAREN TESTERMAN TO SPEAK AT PRESS CONFERENCE FOR NATIONAL MARRIAGE WEEK

Testerman: Marriage is economic and social capital for NH

Friday, February 5, 2010

FRANKLIN, NH — On Monday morning, February 8, 2010 at the Legislative Office Building in Concord, Republican candidate for governor Karen Testerman will stand with supporters of marriage in a joint press conference to kick off National Marriage Week.

Testerman will join a panel of speakers. Elaine Driscoll of Concerned Women for America, along with legislators and pastors in New Hampshire will speak with her on the benefits of marriage in the state.

In a written invitation handed out to legislators this week, Testerman said marriage benefits the economy.

"Marriage provides benefits to the community as both a social and an economic institution, and it is the source of human and social capital for the future of the state...By strengthening the bonds of the natural family we not only reduce the financial impact on the taxpayer, but also provide benefits to the community and businesses..."

Referencing the book, The Case for Marriage, Testerman also noted that poverty and crime share a correlation to divorce and unwed childbearing.

Testerman looks forward to hearing her peers discuss pending pro-marriage legislation in Concord as well as church programs that provide marriage support. She also expects to hear questions and feedback from the audience.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

Testerman a NH resident since 1993

Franklin, NH – Republican candidate for governor, Karen Testerman, issued the following statement regarding internet gossip calling into question her New Hampshire residency status. This issue has recently made its way into news reports of her candidacy.

"According to RSA 655:5, to run for governor a person “must be 30 years of age, a registered voter and domiciled in New Hampshire for at least 7 years,"" Testerman began.

"Since 1993, my husband David and I have proudly lived, worked and raised our family in the State of New Hampshire.  From 1993 to 2004, our home was in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire.  Since then, and until the present, our primary and permanent residence has been and is in Franklin, New Hampshire.  We are currently registered to vote in Franklin, New Hampshire, and we have voted in all elections, state, national and local, in Mont Vernon or Franklin, New Hampshire since 1993.

"In the fall of 2008, my husband’s employer, BAE Systems, only temporarily assigned him to aid a program in conjunction with Boeing in Seattle, WA.  During this temporary assignment both my husband and I have regularly and frequently traveled between our temporary housing in Seattle, provided by BAE, and our home in Franklin.

"I am a resident of the State of New Hampshire and have been for 16 years.  Anyone insinuating otherwise does so out of ignorance or malicious intent," Testerman said.

Karen Testerman Announces Gubernatorial Exploratory Committee - "Friends of Karen Testerman"

Concord, NH - Karen Testerman, founder and former Executive Director of Cornerstone Policy Research, radio host, columnist and author, announced today the formation of an exploratory committee, "Friends of Karen Testerman," through which she will prepare for a 2010 run for governor.  Testerman issued the following statement.

“During the past several months, I have been consulting with friends and supporters throughout the state about the erosion of our freedoms.  Our state motto of 'Live Free or Die' is crumbling under the lack of integrity, out of control spending and a lack of principled leadership in the current administration.  As the founder and former Executive Director of Cornerstone Policy Research, I understand the value of the grassroots effort and I know that one person can make a difference.  I understand that your word is your bond.

“NH was founded on the belief that everyone should be free.  We should have the freedom to succeed.  We should have the freedom to fail.  We should not be forced to allow government to be our nanny who tramples on our freedoms with forced dependency.

“As I meet with the people in our communities, they talk about how they are hurting because they have lost their jobs, or their tax bill is horrendous.  I hear our seniors talk about leaving this state because of the heavy taxes on interest and dividends as well as their property.  I hear about students who cannot find jobs.  But we in NH are creative and innovative.  Small business attests to this, but we must stop burdening them with increased taxes and regulations.

“Today, I will step forward to explore a run for governor of this great state.  With the help of the people of NH we can restore the Prosperity, Principles and Values upon which this state was founded.”
