Bass For Congress - CHARLIE BASS vs. ANN McLANE KUSTER: THE CHOICE IS CLEAR

Bass Will Fight Out-of-Control Washington,

Kuster Will Continue the Barack Obama-Nancy Pelosi Agenda

Concord, NH- Peterborough’s Charlie Bass, the Republican nominee in New Hampshire’s 2nd District race for Congress said today that voters have a very clear and simple choice between his candidacy and that of liberal, progressive, activist Ann McLane Kuster.

Speaking to the media in Concord, Bass said, “This race offers voters a choice between putting a check on out-of-control Washington or continuing with the Barack Obama-Nancy Pelosi program.  In me, they have an experienced, fiscal conservative who has been a strong, independent voice for NH – not afraid to break with my party when it was the right thing to do for New Hampshire.  In Annie Kuster, they have a self-proclaimed, progressive liberal – an activist for the Nancy Pelosi-Barack Obama agenda.   In fact, Kuster’s ideology is often to the left, even more liberal, than President Obama and Speaker Pelosi.”

Bass continued, “I have known Annie Kuster for many years.   She is nice person, and has given many hours to community service and charitable endeavors, as have many people all over NH.   But she is also a career lobbyist and statehouse insider, who has fought for legislation in Concord that is completely out-of-step with New Hampshire values.  I completely disagree with Annie Kuster on the most important issues facing America – but I commend her for not trying to hide who she is - and unabashedly proclaiming her allegiance to Barack Obama and his community of devotees.”

Bass noted that Kuster is a proud, liberal activist who has been endorsed by and received hundreds of thousands of dollars of support from extreme, liberal, activist groups such as:

  • Howard Dean’s Democracy for America
  • Progressive Change Campaign Committee

“I will fight to check the unbridled power of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the Washington Democrats who are pushing America over the bankruptcy cliff by borrowing forty-three cents of every dollar they spend,” said Bass.  “I will work to cut spending, balance the budget and reduce the debt, and put our economy back on a solid plan for real growth, and get big government out of the way - so businesses will create real, long-term, private-sector jobs.”

“I am proud of my record as a fiscally conservative independent, and I am proud to represent all those who want to change Washington now - who want stop our government’s reckless spending and massive increase in debt – and who want to say ‘NO’ to the Obama-Pelosi-Kuster government-solves-all problems agenda,” Bass added.

“Annie Kuster is proud of her record as a liberal, progressive activist for Barack Obama.  Kuster served Obama in NH on his presidential campaign’s steering committee.   She co-chaired ‘NH Women for Obama.’  And Kuster was a Barack Obama Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, standing arm-in-arm with eighty-four thousand like-minded Obama-Pelosi foot soldiers in the Denver football stadium.”

Bass said that on November 2nd, the people of New Hampshire will, “…decide on a direction for our state and our country moving forward.”

He said a vote for Bass will be a vote to, “…stop reckless spending, reduce the debt, and move forward with a sound plan to reinvigorate our economy and create real, long-term, private-sector jobs.”

A vote for Kuster will be a vote to continue Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s agenda of:

  • failed Stimulus spending
  • job-killing economic and energy policies
  • record-setting deficit spending
  • massive government takeover of health care

“This decision for voters is the basic, age-old choice between a candidate – me – who supports smaller government, less spending, and less government intrusion into our lives – and Annie Kuster – who supports big government spending, big government programs like ‘Obamacare,’ and big-government solutions to all of our problems.”

Bass concluded, “As we look around at the thousands of people without jobs, a stagnant, uncertain economy, and out-of-control government spending that is doing nothing but increase our record-setting debt, I could sum up the Obama-Pelosi-Kuster program in four simple words, ‘It is not working.’   Ultimately, the voters will give their opinion on November 2nd.”

DNC - Senator Gregg - Not Even Willing to Debate

Please see the below e-mail from OFA Director Mitch Stewart to members of the OFA e-mail list in New Hampshire asking Granite Staters to speak out and tell Senator Gregg to stop protecting big banks and start protecting American consumers.

Michael --

Both parties have worked for months crafting a bipartisan Wall Street reform bill. But, just hours ago, Senate Republicans -- including Senator Judd Gregg -- voted for a second time to protect their allies on Wall Street and block reform.

Maybe they think obstruction is a good political strategy in an election year. Maybe they're hoping the delay will give bank lobbyists time to water down reform with loopholes and exemptions.

But here's what we know for sure: These Republicans have a lot to explain to the American people. A recent ABC News poll showed that 65 percent support the reforms they just opposed.

Sen. Gregg still has time to cross the aisle and stand with Main Street -- but to make it happen, New Hampshire's voters need to speak out now.

If you haven't already, tell Sen. Gregg to end the delay -- stop protecting the big banks and start protecting American consumers.

With American families struggling in the wake of a crippling financial crisis, they want to know that Washington is doing something to protect consumers from exploitation at the hands of the big banks that got us into this mess.

The Senate bill that Republicans are blocking will provide the strongest consumer financial protections in history, while ensuring that American taxpayers are never again forced to bail out a Wall Street firm "too big to fail."

Sadly, instead of working to debate and revise the bill, Republicans in the Senate are teaming up with the big banks. In fact, press reports confirm that Republican leaders have been meeting privately all month with Wall Street executives, plotting to weaken the bill. With their votes, it appears they're intent on carrying out that plan.

But President Obama has made it clear that any reform bill that doesn't go far enough to rein in the big banks is not acceptable. He's counting on us to speak up.

If we turn up the public pressure, we can stop the delay and help President Obama get both sides of the aisle working together again to pass a strong final bill. Write a letter to Sen. Gregg now:

OFA-New Hampshire Director Tim Arsenault Statement on President Obama's Signing of Landmark Jobs Bill

Legislation will create more jobs and strengthen economy

Organizing for America (OFA)-New Hampshire Director Tim Arsenault today released the following statement on President Obama’s signing of the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, a bill that will fuel job growth and strengthen the economy by encouraging businesses to hire new workers and invest in their companies and communities:

“President Obama’s signing of the bipartisan HIRE Act, a bill that will help create more jobs and strengthen our nation’s economy, is another critical part of the President’s plan to turn our economy around.  While there is still more work to do, Granite Staters and all Americans should be proud of the progress President Obama and Congress have made in bringing our economy back from the brink of collapse.

“Thanks to President Obama’s leadership, our economy is growing again and we are no longer on the verge of a depression.  But those economic statistics are cold comfort to the millions of Americans still looking for work.  That is why President Obama and Congress have been working tirelessly to encourage job creation in our nation’s private sector, the engine of our economy.

“The HIRE Act signed today is just one of several job-creating measures that President Obama has championed to help get Americans back to work.  The tax breaks and other provisions this bill provides to businesses will help encourage the creation of new jobs.  Right now Americans need jobs, and this bill will go a long way in accomplishing that goal.  I want to thank President Obama and Congress for their bold and decisive actions to address our nation’s struggling economy.”

The HIRE Act:

1.      Forgives payroll taxes on new employees hired by businesses by the end of the year in cases where the employee has been out of work for at least the past two months.

2.      Allowing small businesses to write off investments in equipment this year.

3.      Reform municipal bonds in a way that encourages investments in schools and clean energy.

4.      Maintain investments in construction projects throughout the spring and summer.

Join AFP for the Patients' Summit

I hate to tell you, BUT the battle to stop the takeover of our health care is not over.

In 6 days, on February 25, President Obama will hold a "Health Care Summit" where he and Speaker Nancy Pelosi will unveil their "new" health care plan that they are currently writing in secret behind closed doors.

The Left is hoping their "summit" will be the game-changer they need to re-launch their scheme to take over our health care system.

You and I need to make sure that does not happen.

At Americans for Prosperity, we're holding our own Critical Care: The Patients' Summit to deliver a simple message:  the American people have rejected this trillion-dollar takeover of health care. So Congress should start over from scratch, or better yet, focus on policies that create jobs and get our economy moving again.

First, we'll gather outside the Blair House at 9:30 a.m. on February 25 where President Obama will be hosting his "summit."  We'll make sure attendees like Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid hear our message as they head inside.

Then, beginning at 11:30am we will hold our own Critical Care: The Patients' Summit at the JW Marriott in DC.

If you can't join us in person in Washington, you can still be a part of the Patients' Summit. We'll be Webcasting live online at AmericansforProsperity.org.

Between now and President Obama's "summit," we need to email and call our senators and member of Congress to tell them in advance that the American people do not want another big-government, tax-and-spend, freedom-crushing piece of legislation to come up again.

So, I'm asking you to CLICK HERE to call your elected representatives today.

It's fast.  It's easy.  More importantly, it makes a difference.

The Left is hoping that we have moved on from the health care battle.  They're thinking that President Obama's "summit" is their big chance to get the ball rolling again.

A lot of senators and congressmen are wondering if the mood of the American people has changed.

We've got to show them in a crystal clear fashion that the American people simply do not trust the Washington politicians with our health care.

Thanks for all you're doing and let's keep fighting.

PS:  You know how hard all of us worked last year to stop this health care takeover.  We cannot let victory slip away.  Let me know you'll join our Critical Care: The Patients' Summit online or in person on February 25 by CLICKING HERE.

And, let's re-engage on the health care front by calling our senators and representatives today. CLICK HERE.

Shea-Porter Statement on President Obama's Bipartisan Debt Reduction Commission

WASHINGTON, DC  Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today released the following statement regarding President Obama’s creation of the bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform:

“We must get our fiscal house in order and that is why I support the creation of this bipartisan Commission.  As a cosponsor of similar legislation in the House, I was disappointed when the U.S. Senate failed to pass an amendment to create a bipartisan commission to find solutions to reduce the deficit and the debt.  I am pleased that President Obama took this necessary step forward today.”
