US House Republicans - VIDEO: President Obama’s About-Face on His Sequester

President Obama proposed the sequester, insisted his sequester become law, and then doubled-down on keeping his sequester in place even vowing to veto any efforts by Congress to replace it – until today.  Why the about-face, Mr. President?  House Republicans have already passed two bills to replace the arbitrary cuts in President Obama’s sequester with responsible spending cuts and real economic reforms to create jobs and prosperity for all Americans.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Delivers Weekly Republican Address

"It was painfully clear during the debate that President Obama has no new ideas to fix the economy....

If we want to do better than the last four years, well, there's only one choice to make. And that's Governor Mitt Romney."

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In this week's address, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus highlights the first presidential debate and the stark choice we face in this election. Gov. Mitt Romney has a sensible plan to fix our economy, while President Obama's only plan is to repeat the same failed policies that have buried the middle class. After four years of chronically high unemployment, record debt, and higher healthcare costs, Chairman Priebus says, "We need a new direction because we can't afford four more years like the last four."

The address is available in both audio and video format and is embargoed until 6:00 a.m. ET, Saturday, October 6, 2012.

NOTE: The address is embargoed until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012.

Audio of the address is available here.

Video of the address will be available here.

TRANSCRIPT:

"Hi. I'm Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

"This week, America watched the first debate between President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney, and it crystallized the choice we face on November 6th.

"It was painfully clear during the debate that President Obama has no new ideas to fix the economy. His only plan for a second term is a tax increase so large it would destroy over 700,000 jobs.

"Think about that. As Friday's jobs report shows, America still desperately needs jobs. Yet the president's central and sole proposal would mean fewer jobs.

"We need a new direction. Because we can't afford four more years like the last four. Falling incomes. Rising prices. 23 million Americans struggling for work. $5.5 trillion in new national debt. And, now, growing turmoil overseas in the Middle East.

"President Obama's policies haven't worked. And as Vice President Biden admitted on Tuesday, the middle class, quote, 'has been buried in the last four years.' Another four years would just bury the middle class even more.

"During the 2008 debates, then-Senator Obama assured us he fully understood our problems and that he had the right solutions.

"He promised to make healthcare more affordable. And President Obama promised to get our spending under control by cutting the deficit in half.

"He also was so confident that shortly after taking office President Obama said that he would fix the economy in three years or face, quote, a 'one-term proposition.'

"But today, he's broken those promises. And now, his words have no credibility.

"Midway through the debate, I think the president realized that he's been president for the past four years, and it was his policies and his agenda that have failed to produce any of the results that he promised us as a candidate.

"President Obama simply hasn't shown the kind of leadership we need. We face crises today which requires a steady hand, and a leader focused on the job.

"But President Obama's focus has been on saving his own job.

"Now, as a party chairman, I understand that the president must campaign. But he also has a job to do. While Barack Obama enjoys being president, he doesn't seem to enjoy the work required of being a great president.

"For example: He hasn't bothered to meet with his own Jobs Council since January. However, he has found the time for lavish campaign fundraisers--140 since his last Jobs Council meeting. All told, the president has held more than twice the number of reelection fundraisers as his predecessor.

"The story is the same with foreign policy. Just a few weeks ago before our embassies were attacked we learned that the president had been skipping his daily intelligence briefings.

"When the United Nations General Assembly gathered in New York last week, the President didn't make time to meet with world leaders. Not Prime Minister Netanyahu. Not the president of Libya. Not the president of Egypt. But he did make time to go on the T.V. talk show, The View.

"All this leaves Americans wondering, Where is the leadership? Whether it's a crises abroad or at home, Where is the plan?

"And that brings us back to the debate and the choice we face in November.

"As Governor Romney outlined Wednesday night, he has a clear, specific plan. The Romney-Ryan Plan for a Stronger Middle Class is expected to create 12 million jobs over the next four years.

"Governor Romney has a plan to cut taxes for middle class Americans, and a plan to achieve North American energy independence.

"In international affairs, Governor Romney won't avoid our allies and apologize to our adversaries. He'll champion peace through strength and protect our interests and ideals.

"How can we be sure that he can get the job done? It's simple. He has a record. And unlike President Obama's record, Mitt Romney's record is a record of success.

"In business, he started successful companies and saved failing ones. He rescued the 2002 Olympics and made the Games a source of national pride. And as Governor, he balanced every budget, cut taxes, improved education, and reduced unemployment.

"In the coming debates, the contrast will grow sharper and the choice, clearer. And if we want to do better than the last four years, well, there's only one choice to make. And that's Governor Mitt Romney.

"Thank you, God bless you, and God Bless America."

Johnson For President - Your Right to Vote is Under Attack

Friends,

Your voting rights are under attack – by Mitt Romney and the national Republicans.

Mitt Romney doesn’t want Gov. Gary Johnson on the ballot.  It’s just that simple.

Clearly, the idea of giving voters a chance in November to vote for a presidential candidate who is serious about cutting spending, repealing the Patriot Act, ending the wars, and standing up for individual liberties is scaring the Republicans – and perhaps it should.

But rather than have a debate on these issues with Governor Johnson, the Republicans are trying to silence him.  In elections offices and courts across the country, Republican operatives and lawyers are trying to remove  Governor Johnson’s name from the ballot before the voters ever get a chance to cast their vote.  Fending off these attacks is difficult, it is unfair…..and expensive.

You can help defend the rights of voters in those states.  Go to www.garyjohnson2012.com today.

In Virginia, one of the most difficult states in the nation to qualify for the ballot, our supporters worked long and hard to submit thousands of signatures, and election officials approved them – something not even Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich accomplished.  Nevertheless, a few days ago, the Republican Party challenged our petitions and forced us to devote precious resources to simply keeping Gov. Johnson on the ballot.  We succeeded, as you can read here: Gary Johnson Makes Virginia Ballot.  But it took a lot of time and money that could be used to buy radio and TV ads.

The same tactics are being used against Gov. Johnson in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Oklahoma, Michigan and elsewhere.  The story is the same.  Republican Party representatives and their lawyers are bringing frivolous challenges to our ballot qualifications – and making us spend our money to defend the rights of voters to support Gov. Johnson if they wish.  And they just happen to be doing so in key states where polls show Gov. Johnson gaining ground.

Gov. Johnson needs your support to keep up the fight.

So far, we are winning these battles.  Just yesterday, an Iowa court rejected the Republicans’ challenge.  We prevailed in Virginia.  And in the past couple of days, Gov. Johnson has been placed on the ballot in both New Hampshire and Hawaii.  In all, we have qualified for the ballot in 43 states, and are committed to doing so in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

But the fight is just beginning.  Right now, we are having to go to court in Michigan and Oklahoma, and we have heard from Republican operatives that they fully intend to try to remove Gov. Johnson from the ballot wherever they can.

So, here is what we have to do:  Based on our experience so far, we know that it will cost at least $100,000 just to fend off these frivolous ballot challenges – and that is money we HAVE to spend.  With only a month or so remaining before ballots have to be printed, we must have those funds available NOW.  Please go to www.garyjohnson2012.com and contribute whatever amount you can to make sure we can keep up the fight.  Every dollar counts.

Your support and generosity have brought us to the point where our opponents are trying everything they can to keep Gov. Johnson off the ballot.  We can’t let that happen. Not even in a single state.  While the Republicans are flying around the country and hiring the most expensive law firms in places like Des Moines and Philadelphia, our attorneys are driving from state to state and depending on great supporters to help mount our defenses.

We’re going to win, but not without your help.  Please contribute to our “Let Us Vote” fund today at www.garyjohnson2012.com. It is essential that we raise $100,000 to keep up the fight – and keep winning.

Liberty MUST be on the ballot in November.  That’s what Governor Johnson’s campaign is about, and it starts with your help today.

Thank you for your friendship to Governor Johnson, and your support.
