Public Policy Polling Media Alert: Paul, Clinton early leaders in New Hampshire

PPP's new poll of New Hampshire Republicans about 2016 finds momentum on Rand Paul's side. He leads the potential field with 28% to 25% for Marco Rubio, 14% for Chris Christie, 7% for Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan, 4% for Rick Santorum, 3% for Susana Martinez, and 1% each for Rick Perry and Bobby Jindal.

Paul has seen a huge increase in his support from when PPP last looked at New Hampshire in November, from 4% then to his current 28% standing. Also on the rise is Rubio who's gone up 11 points from 14% to 25%. On the down swing are Christie who's dropped 7 points from 21% and the lead then to 14% and 3rd place now, Bush who's dropped 4 points from 11% to 7%, and Ryan who's dropped 3 points from 10% to 7%.

Paul is benefiting from his appeal to independent voters. Rubio leads him 29/26 among voters who are actually registered as Republicans, but Paul's at 32% with independents to 19% for Christie and 17% for Rubio. Paul also leads Rubio with men (33/22) and younger voters (35/26), while Rubio has the upper hand with women (27/22) and seniors (35/14).

On the Democratic side desire for Hillary Clinton to be the party nominee next year has just increased even further from November. Then 60% of Democrats supported her, now that's up to 68% who want her as their candidate to 12% for Joe Biden, 5% for Elizabeth Warren, 3% for Andrew Cuomo, and 2% for Deval Patrick with nobody else over 1%. Clinton has over 50% support from men and women, young, middle aged, and old voters, 'very liberal,' 'somewhat liberal,' and 'moderate' voters, and both Democrats and independents.

If Clinton doesn't run there's 44% support for Biden, followed by Warren at 12% and Patrick and Cuomo at 9% with no one else over 2%. If Clinton and Biden both sit it out 30% of Democrats say they don't know who they would want as their candidate with Cuomo at 23%, Warren at 22%, Patrick at 17%, Kirsten Gillibrand at 4%, Martin O'Malley at 2%, and Brian Schweitzer and Mark Warner each at 1%.

Clinton's so strong in New Hampshire that early indications are she could take it off the board as a swing state in the general election if she runs. She leads Paul 52/41 and Rubio 52/38 in hypothetical match ups, holding a double digit lead with independents and getting double digit support from Republicans in both potential match ups.

ALG: 'No space needed when it comes to missile defense'

March 27, 2012, Fairfax, VA—Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today issued the following statement responding to Barack Obama's candid statement to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev saying he needed "space" and would have "more flexibility" after the election to deal with missile defense:

"There is no space needed when it comes to missile defense, something Russia has never supported since the Star Wars program was initiated by President Reagan in the 1980s. Obama either supports the nuclear defense shield or he doesn't. The only thing he would need flexibility for is to weaken the U.S. position on missile defense without electoral repercussions.

"In 2009, Obama already cancelled plans for the wider shield in Poland and the Czech Republic that would have provided protection to our allies from Russian and other missiles. The Administration foolishly claimed long-range missiles were not a threat. Really? At the same time, the State Department this year said the Administration is 'committed to pursuing missile defense cooperation with Russia'. Does that include further dismantling of our capabilities and leaving our allies in no-man's land?

"Making matters worse, this year, it was revealed the Administration is also exploring the possibility of reducing the nation's nuclear stockpile to as few as 300 at a time when Russia and China are expanding their nuclear capabilities.

"It is one thing to pursue mutual arms reductions among major powers and to further halt nuclear proliferation, as in the Reagan-Gorbachev era, but to do so unilaterally — in exchange for nothing — is suicidal. Missile defense is not something we should ever be flexible with. It's non-negotiable. The U.S. will not be subject to nuclear blackmail. What is Obama thinking?"

NHDP - Statement by President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton on the Passing of Anita Freedman

Members of the press; below you will find a statement by President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton on the passing of long time Democratic activist Anita Freedman:

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend Anita Freedman. Her loyalty, support, and service to the New Hampshire Democratic Party not only helped us both at critical junctures in our own lives, but advanced the future of our nation, and we were glad she agreed to serve on the White House Conference on Aging and the Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad. We always looked forward to our visits when we came to New Hampshire and kept in touch with her often in between. She was very good at reminding all Democrats who we were and what we stood for, rallying our base and bringing more people to our party. We will miss her boundless energy, her wise counsel, her infectious smile and her generous spirit, and our prayers go out to her family and many friends."

Good Tuesday Afternoon -

A messy response to an oily disaster. "Obama gave a speech in October of 2009 promising the people of New Orleans that they would not be forgotten, that efforts of reconstruction would continue after the catastrophic event of Hurricane Katrina just four years earlier…

In that speech, Obama also set a top priority for himself and his cabinet. 'When I took office as President, one of the first things I did was tell my cabinet and senior staff that our Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts and our disaster response efforts were going to be top priorities for this White House. I wanted to get it right and I wanted us to be ready.'

It doesn't seem like his cabinet or senior staff got that message. If they did get the message, then those words spoken by Obama are damning evidence of his inability to lead a country amidst a crisis."

General McChrystal is in hot water. Gibbs says General's future is in question, "all options are on the table"…

Ted Kennedy's KGB correspondence. From NRD contributing editor Kevin Mooney, "Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's self-serving, secret correspondence with Soviet agents during the height of the Cold War included proposals for collaborative efforts designed to undermine official U.S. policy set by Democratic and Republican administrations, KGB documents show."

Now or never. From ALG President Bill Wilson, "Despite the continuing fiscal meltdown facing the federal, state, and local governments, occurring in tandem with the sovereign debt crisis globally, Paul Krugman still appears to have the ear of appropriators. In his Monday column, "Now and Later," he writes, 'Spend now, while the economy remains depressed" promising illusory savings "later, once it has recovered.'"

Media scrutiny of Berman's non-profits should be directed against ACORN. NRD contributing editor Kevin Mooney writes, "Questions are being raised in The New York Times about the relationship between Richard Berman's for-profit communications firm and the six non-profit firms he founded. The Washington D.C. lobbyist, turned policy advocate, has used the non-profits to help organize against policies that intrude on the free market and interfere with consumer choice."

Cancelled: There will be no congressional budget this year. "In light of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's (D-MD) announcement this morning that House Democrats will not pass a budget this year – failing to fulfill what he has called "the most basic responsibility" of governing – the following important fiscal health warning has been issued…" keep reading.

Voters say Hillary Clinton is more qualified to be President than Obama. From Rasmussen Reports, "U.S. voters think Hillary Clinton is more qualified to be president than Barack Obama, but most believe that both Democrats are more fit for the White House than three top Republicans interested in the job."
