Sanborn Announces "Women for Andy" Coalition In NH Senate Dist. 9

Over 50 members within the 9th District alone

BEDFORD, NH – State Senator Andy Sanborn, candidate for re-election in the 9th District, today announced the creation of the “Women for Andy” coalition – a group of female supporters from across the 9th District who have chosen to publicly support Andy as their next State Senator.

“I’m humbled by the overwhelming support I’m receiving from women all over the District, all of whom I have deep respect for,” Senator Sanborn said.  “This coalition will be enormously helpful to this campaign as we get closer and closer to Election Day.  It’s clear that the voters of District 9 – both men and women alike – want a State Senator who is focused on job creation, keeping taxes low, and allowing small business to grow,” he continued.

State Representative Laurie Sanborn, Senator Sanborn’s wife and the Chair of the Women for Andy Coalition, said “All of the members on this list are excited about Andy’s candidacy and helping him continuing his important work in the Senate.  They understand that what New Hampshire needs right now is more business-owners in Concord who understand the private sector and can work to maintain a business-friendly environment in our great state,” she stated.

"Proven results, proven leadership and proven resolve to do what is right in the face of adversity are rare qualities today, and Andy Sanborn defines what we look for in a leader of this state," added coalition member Kathy Van Anglen of Bedford.

Another member, Janice Ford of Hancock, said "Andy has served our family admirably in the State Senate for the past two years, and I truly hope he can continue. His common sense solutions give me hope for the future of our state and country."

Women who are interested in joining the coalition can do so by visiting Senator Sanborn's website, AndySanborn.com.

Romney For President - WOMEN CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF PRESIDENT OBAMA

“Women have a clear choice in November after four years that have delivered little progress for millions of struggling Americans. President Obama’s failed economic policies have left women with fewer jobs, higher poverty, and diminishing opportunities for the next generation. And even inside the Obama White House, women have been left behind. Mitt Romney has a clear record of empowering women – and, as president, will work to build a stronger economy with millions of new jobs to help deliver a real recovery for all Americans.” – Andrea Saul, Romney Campaign Spokesperson

WOMEN AREN’T BETTER OFF UNDER BARACK OBAMA’S LEADERSHIP

For The Last Four Years, Women And Their Families Have Struggled Under President Obama’s Failed Economic Policies:

Since President Obama Took Office, The Unemployment Rate For Women Has Increased From 7% To 7.5%. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, 10/10/12)

Nearly 5.5 Million Women Are Currently Unemployed – An Increase Of 451,000 Women Since President Obama Took Office. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, 10/10/12)

Over 20% Of The Nation’s Teenage Women Are Unemployed. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, 10/10/12)

In 2011, The Poverty Rate Among Women Was 16.3% – The Highest Rate In 17 Years. (U.S. Census Bureau, 9/12/12)

More Than 25 Million Women Are Living In Poverty – An Increase Of 3.6 Million Under President Obama. (U.S. Census Bureau, 9/12/12)

“More Adult Children Moved In With Their Parents Amid The Recent Tough Economic Times In The United States…” “More adult children moved in with their parents amid the recent tough economic times in the United States, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released on Wednesday. The number of adult children living with parents increased 1.2 million to 15.8 million between 2007 and 2010, the Census Bureau said. Those ages 25 to 34 accounted for two thirds of the 823,000 increase in adult children living with parents during that period, according to the report.” (“Adult Children Move Back Home In Tough Economy,” Reuters, 6/20/12)

In 2011, More Than Half Of All Recent College Graduates Were “Jobless Or Underemployed, The Highest Share In At Least 11 Years.” “About 1.5 million, or 53.6 percent, of bachelor's degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in at least 11 years. In 2000, the share was at a low of 41 percent, before the dot-com bust erased job gains for college graduates in the telecommunications and IT fields.” (Hope Yen, “1 In 2 New Graduates Are Jobless Or Underemployed,” The Associated Press, 4/22/12)

“The ‘Mancession’ Has Morphed Into The ‘Hecovery,’ Leaving Women Workers Largely In The Dust.” “More jobless Americans are finding work these days, but they are mainly lucky fellas. The ‘mancession’ has morphed into the ‘hecovery,’ leaving women workers largely in the dust. The share of adult women who are employed is lower than it was two years ago, while men have seen an upturn.” (Tami Luhby, “Where Have All The Women’s Jobs Gone?” CNN Money, 4/20/12)

And It’s Not Just The Obama Economy – Women Have Also Struggled In The Obama White House:

In The Obama White House’s “Rough-And-Tumble Environment … Female Staff Members Often Felt Bruised.”  “In this rough-and-tumble environment, the book reports, female staff members often felt bruised. At a dinner with Mr. Obama in November 2009, several top female aides — including Anita Dunn, who was the communications director, and Christina Romer, the chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisers — told the president about being talked over in meetings by male colleagues or cut out altogether.” (Mark Landler, “Book Details Dissension In Obama Economic Team,” The New York Times, 9/15/11)

“The Notion That Women Have Long Been ‘The Heart Of The Obama Organization’ Doesn't Necessarily Line Up With The President's Largely Male List Of Political Advisers And Senior Staff.” (Alexander Burns, “Women For Obama,” Politico, 11/15/11)

“Even When Women Are In The Room With Obama, They Are Sometimes Seen But Not Heard.” “Even when women are in the room with Obama, they are sometimes seen but not heard. At a 2010 symposium on women in finance, Christina Romer, then the chair of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors, talked about the difficulty she had getting the floor in policy discussions.” (Amy Sullivan, “The White House Boys’ Club: President Obama Has A Woman Problem,” Time, 9/21/11)

President Obama Is “Responsible For A Work Atmosphere That Marginalizes And Ignores Women.” “Coverage in the Washington Post and a new book by Ron Suskind has focused attention on the frustration of Obama’s female advisers. But the problem has been obvious almost since Obama took office. And while the explanations so far have blamed members of the mostly-departed boys club–Robert Gibbs, Rahm Emanuel–Obama himself is responsible for a work atmosphere that marginalizes and ignores women.” (Amy Sullivan, “The White House Boys’ Club: President Obama Has A Woman Problem,” Time, 9/21/11)

An Unnamed High-Ranking Female Official: “The President Has A Real Woman Problem.” “’The president has a real woman problem,’ an unnamed high-ranking female official told Suskind. ‘The idea of the boys’ club being just Larry and Rahm isn’t really fair. He [Obama] was just as responsible himself.’” (Nia-Malika Henderson and Peter Wallsten, “Book: Women In Obama White House Felt Excluded And Ignored,” The Washington Post, 9/16/11)

Former Obama Communications Director Anita Dunn: “This Place Would Be In Court For A Hostile Workplace.” (Nia-Malika Henderson, “Book: Women In Obama White House Felt Excluded And Ignored,” The Washington Post, 9/16/11)

Dunn: “It Actually Fit All Of The Classic Legal Requirements For A Genuinely Hostile Workplace To Women.” (Nia-Malika Henderson, “Book: Women In Obama White House Felt Excluded And Ignored,” The Washington Post, 9/16/11)

Former Economic Advisor Christina Romer: “I Felt Like A Piece Of Meat.” “‘I felt like a piece of meat,’ Christina Romer, former head of the Council of Economic Advisers, said of one meeting in which Suskind writes she was ‘boxed out’ by Summers.” (Nia-Malika Henderson, “Book: Women In Obama White House Felt Excluded And Ignored,” The Washington Post, 9/16/11)

“The President Initially Discounted The Complaints He Heard That Women, Particularly On His Economic Team, Were Making.” “Some early efforts to elevate women foundered. The first White House communications director, Ellen Moran, departed quickly, after a rocky tenure. Others never quite fit in, or failed to be ‘in the jet stream’ of the most important events of the day, one official said. According to another official, the president initially discounted the complaints he heard that women, particularly on his economic team, were making.” (Peter Wallsten and Anne E. Kornblut, “In Early Obama White House, Female Staffers Felt Frozen Out,” The Washington Post, 9/20/11)

MITT ROMNEY’S RECORD OF EMPOWERING WOMEN IN GOVERNMENT

As Governor, Mitt Romney Empowered Women And Presided Over A Government That Ranked First For Women Appointments:

A 2004 Report Showed Massachusetts Ranked First In The Nation In The Percentage Of Women Appointed By The Governor To Policy-Making Positions. “[Massachusetts] also ranks first among the 50 states in the percentage of women appointed by the governor to policy-making positions, according to a new study from the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society at the University at Albany, State University of New York.” (Elaine McArdle, “Calling The Shots,” The Boston Globe, 10/31/04)

University At Albany, On Massachusetts Government In 2004: “Women Now Hold 54.5% Of Top Advisor Jobs And 50% Of Department Head Positions…” “Between 1998 and 2004, women’s participation as top policy leaders in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of Massachusetts state government rose by 4.4 percentage points to 28.0%. Women now hold 54.5% of top advisor jobs and 50% of department head positions, both figures well above national and New England regional averages.” (“Women’s Leadership Profile 2004,” Center For Women In Government & Civil Society, University At Albany, Fall 2004)

In Massachusetts Under Governor Romney, The Percentage Of Women Top Advisers And Department Heads Far Exceeded Averages For The Region And Nation. (“Women’s Leadership Profile 2004,” Center For Women In Government & Civil Society, University At Albany, Fall 2004)

FYI – Mitt Romney leads President Obama by five percentage points among likely voters in the nation's top battlegrounds, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, and he has growing enthusiasm among women to thank.

As the presidential campaign heads into its final weeks, the survey of voters in 12 crucial swing states finds female voters much more engaged in the election and increasingly concerned about the deficit and debt issues that favor Romney. The Republican nominee now ties the president among women who are likely voters, 48%-48%, while he leads by 12 points among men.

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney leads President Obama by five percentage points among likely voters in the nation's top battlegrounds, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, and he has growing enthusiasm among women to thank.

The battle for women, which was apparent in the speakers spotlighted at both political conventions this summer, is likely to help define messages the candidates deliver at the presidential debate Tuesday night and in the TV ads they air during the final 21 days of the campaign. As a group, women tend to start paying attention to election contests later and remain more open to persuasion by the candidates and their ads.

That makes women, especially blue-collar "waitress moms" whose families have been hard-hit by the nation's economic woes, the quintessential swing voters in 2012's close race.

"In every poll, we've seen a major surge among women in favorability for Romney" since his strong performance in the first debate, veteran Democratic pollster Celinda Lake says. "Women went into the debate actively disliking Romney, and they came out thinking he might understand their lives and might be able to get something done for them."

While Lake believes Obama retains an edge among women voters, the changed views of Romney could be "a precursor to movement" to the Republican candidate, she says. "It opens them up to take a second look, and that's the danger for Obama."

Female voters are a critical part of the president's coalition. Four years ago, he led Republican rival John McCain by a single point among men, according to surveys of voters as they left polling places. The decisive Democratic margin of victory came from women, who supported Obama by 13 points.

Now, the USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows Romney leading Obama 51%-46% among likely voters in the swing states. Men who are likely voters back him 54%-42%. The states are Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Romney pollster Neil Newhouse says the poll shows "encouraging movement" in the wake of the first debate in Denver. Obama pollster Joel Benenson calls the method used to identify likely voters flawed.

"In the last election, Gallup's registered voter model — not its likely voter model — was a much more accurate predictor, with their likely model missing the mark in 2010 by 9 points right before the election," Benenson says. "That explains why Gallup's results are way out of line with a dozen recent swing state polls that show the president with a double-digit lead among women."

Among all registered voters in the survey, Obama leads by nine points among women and by two points overall, 49%-47%.

Bass Releases Video: Bipartisan Leadership for Women

CONCORD – Charlie Bass is a strong supporter and advocate of protecting women’s health, equality and reproductive rights.  Today, the Bass for Congress campaign released a video titled “Bipartisan Leadership for Women,” featuring Charlie Bass (R-NH) and his statement on fighting for women’s health and equality.

Charlie Bass is a strong supporter and advocate of protecting women’s health and equality. Bass co-sponsored the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act of 2011, to streamline research and funding to find a cure and end to the disease. Bass called for action on the bipartisan reauthorization of the Violence against Women Act (VAWA) to protect all victims of violence.  Bass is proud to be a strong advocate for women’s rights.

Transcript (Charlie Bass):

“Women’s health issues have always been a major concern for me. That’s the reason why I joined my colleague Karen Bass from California, in co-sponsoring a bill that seeks to prevent metastasis in breast cancer by the year 2020. That’s why I believe that women’s health issues in general are very important; that women should have a right to make choices over their own health decisions in consultation with their doctors and not have the federal government seeking to regulate a women’s right of access to health care. Now with respect to these issues, I happen to believe that women should have a right to contraception, that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and that it should be upheld. That is not the way that most of my Republican colleagues feel, but I believe that women’s health issues are important and that the decisions that women make about their own personal health are ones that should be made between them and their doctors, not between them and the federal government or a bureaucrat. It is very important to me as it is, I know, to all women across this nation.”
