RALEIGH, N.C. (September 14, 2007) - With football season in high gear, Young Republicans (YRs) have kicked off the 2007-2008 GOP Tailgate Contest. The contest encourages Republicans to show their support for Republican candidates by hosting Republican-themed tailgate parties at sporting events and music concerts from now until February. The contest, which began last year in North Carolina, received the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) Event of the Year honors earlier this year and will be building momentum nationwide in preparation for the 2008 presidential election.
Jessica Colon, Chairman of the YRNF said, "We look forward to having more Republicans of all ages get active. This is a unique opportunity to campaign for our Republican candidates."
Awards for Best GOP Tailgate Party in the USA, Most Original Tailgate and Most Recruited Members will be given at the conclusion of the contest.
The fun and inexpensive grassroots campaign promotes increased visibility for candidates and republican organizations, an innovative way for new volunteers to be introduced to the GOP and creative locations to set up voter registration booths or distribute campaign signs and Republican voter guides. Kim Cotten, Chairman of the North Carolina Federation of Young Republicans said, "The Young Republicans are active in getting more people excited and educated about politics and encouraging more people to get involved. We invite all Republicans to enter the contest and get more active in the political process." She goes on to say, "The College Republican organizations will also be a part of the contest and we are excited to have a fun and easy activity for passionate and patriotic Republicans to take part in."
There will be a few additions to this season's contest in an effort to get even more Republicans involved. "One difference this year is that we are opening the contest to any sporting event or music concert that tailgating is welcomed and has over 100 spectators," said Dave Reynolds, Chairman of the Wake County Young Republicans and contest organizer. "This year's contest should provide more Republicans an opportunity to get involved at events of all sizes. From high school, college and professional sporting events like football, hockey, and NASCAR to music concerts; we are trying to make it easy to support your favorite candidates and at the same time potentially win a gift certificate for up to $500 for your efforts."
The Young Republicans (YRs) are the oldest political youth organization in the United States. Since its creation, the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) has established itself as the premier Republican grassroots organization in the nation, providing essential grassroots support for Republican candidates and conservative issues on the local, state and national levels.
The YRNF has a solid record of producing future Republican Party leaders - including Governors, Senators, Congressmen, nationally recognized campaign consultants, and community leaders.
Through recruiting, training and mobilizing people, the YRNF presents an opportunity for ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Through community involvement in political issues, charitable projects and participation in political campaigns, YRs work to improve the world in which we live.
