While on the Internet looking for information about the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, I came upon the Web site www.tollroadsnews.com.
This intrigued me, so I went there to see what it was all about. I hadn’t seen a diagram of the new access road from the F.E. Everett Turnpike to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, so I entered that into the search box, which took me to www.tollroadsnews.com/node/3083.
What I saw absolutely infuriated me! You all must check this out.
My discovery was that there will be no tolls collected from people using the new access road. Not from the South; not from the North.
The road goes around the Bedford tollgate, avoiding the necessity of paying tolls. Also, that same access road gives drivers access to Route 3, opening up (as stated in this report) 1,000 acres to prime commercial development for the town of Bedford.
People traveling west from Manchester and Londonderry will get to Route 3 in Bedford free. Does this sound like a slap in the face?
Drivers will be able to come from anywhere in Massachusetts to Route 3 in Nashua, travel the F.E. Everett Turnpike, reconnect with Route 3 in Bedford, or access the airport and never pay a dime. We in Merrimack must pay to use the same road.
The site also mentions the fact that the New Hampshire Department of Transportation knows that there will be a loss of toll revenue with this new road. Guess where they’ll make that up?
I asked questions of people in the know and this information was verified as being correct. Now my question is: Where were our reps from Merrimack when this was passed?
My next question is: What’s going to be done about it?
Wake up. It’s past coffee time. Do you want to get hosed yet again?
Remember, there will be a few elections between now and the 2010 completion date of this $123-million project.
The only thing I can add to what Anita wrote here is to question how reps from other towns can continue to allow this to happen? I guess since YOUR voters aren't the ones being saddled with the burden of tolls it's ok right?
