How Much Is Your Share of the National Debt?

Couple facts to think about...

The nation's population at the time of my writing this is 308,578,364

The current national debt is $12,308,663,574,131.99

That means every man, woman and child alive right now in this country owes $39,888.29 as their share of the national debt.

When Obama took office the national debt was $10,626,877,048,913.08 so in his first year he's increased it by $1,681,786,525,218.91 or $5,450.11 per person.

By contrast, the amount of annual debt each person owes thanks to Bush and Republicans in his first 6 years when Republicans controlled both houses comes to $1,297.35 per year.  During Bush's last two years in office with Democrats holding the purse strings the amount spent per person jumped to $3,971.66.

Let this sink in for a moment before I introduce further facts.

According to the most recent data I could find from the census bureau, the median household income for 2007 was $50,233.  The average household size was roughly 3 people.

Just considering the amount of debt accrued by Obama and Democrats over the past year, we're looking at $16,350.33 for the typical household or 33% of their income.

One third of what an average household takes home is just the debt Obama has racked up this year alone.  That's just the debt.  That's not counting any other government spending that they actually can afford based on the taxes they are taking from you already.

Add that $16k to the amount of taxes your already paying every year and ask yourself a couple simple questions.

Are you getting your money's worth from our government?

If you had even the $16k above and beyond what they've taken from you in taxes do you feel you could do more for charities and the poor then the government is doing today?

If you had the $16k above and beyond what they've spent in your taxes do you feel you could have done more to help give the economy a boost?

Are you pleased knowing how much above and beyond what is already taken from you is being spent?

Now ask yourself one more thing since I'm sure you aren't happy with the facts listed here...

What are you going to do about it?
