John Edwards - Oh the Shame
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 08:49AM Seems Edwards is the story of the week. Everywhere I turn it seems he's being discussed or attacked.
Personally I don't see it as much more a story then say a story discussing who Brad Pitt is dating this week in that it isn't a story. The guy messed around on his wife. That's an issue between him and her and it should end there UNLESS it is shown somehow to have effected his job as an elected public official or if a law was broken.
Bill Clinton was getting his whistle blown while on the phone with heads of state which makes his affairs with Monica a national issue. I don't know about you but I would hate to think that the president deciding whether or not to put my son or daughter into harms way is focusing more on an intern then the people he's on the phone with. Nor would I want to think that all it would take is a slutty intern willing to do nasty things to be able to spy on sensitive conversations.
Edwards however hasn't been shown to have sunk to that level. He cheated on a sick wife in her time of need. A low move yes, but not a national issue. It's too bad our media isn't focusing this much attention on the real issues on hand.

Breaking update: Stories are now surfacing that Edwards used Campaign funds to pay off his mistress. They claim it wasn't hush money but if it were it would have been illegal use of funds. That would certainly paint a different side to this story then just an unfaithful husband cheating on his ill wife.

It shows he is a liar and untrustworthy, that is one point worth knowing about Edwards.
The other is the extent his pals in the asbestos lawsuit industry will sink to hide his indiscretions and use of campaign money.
The attempt to hide the fact that he has an illegitimate child could be worse than admitting it. Who among the gang buying the weenieographers silence will want favors.
Its like the Clintoons all over again.
Edwards is a left wing politician so that point goes without saying.
However in this case he's lying to those he loves and cares about. While yes it does help show his true character I don't think it alone is reason to damn him. After all the right wing has had it's fair share of men who couldn't keep it in their pants as well.
In ability to keep it in ones pants does not make one a bad (or good) politician either way. Look at JFK, I'd stand to argue that he was a great president (ironically by representing all the things that define conservatism today) yet he was banging everything that moved.
I suppose you could ask Marilynn Monroe about all this but she.....
