Do Democrats Get It?

Never in my life have I see the government give the public the finger the way they did this week going against the popular opinion of the public and instead passing a health care bill the majority of this country objects to.

This means one of two things, either Democrats honestly believe the public does want what they've forced on us or they know we object and just don't seem to care.

Based on a recent Carol Shea-Porter ad I lean to believe that they really don't get it and they honestly think the American public does support them.

Does Carol think that standing up saying she supported one of the most unpopular bills in an ad paid for by a Government Employee Union and a George Soros front group will win her votes?  Perhaps she'd like to run a second ad showing her support for allowing children to get abortions without parental knowledge paid for by molesters and serial killers too?

It's clear she doesn't get it.  Maybe that's why her handlers have her campaigning in Boston, so she can continually be surrounded by like minded people telling her how popular and liked she is.  It wouldn't be the first time Democrats only listened to their own side.

Perhaps this is why Congress right now has only a 17.4% approval rating and 77% disapproval.

Gosh -- I thought the public opinion that counted was an election, and that we wanted our elected officials to follow-through on promises made. Both Carol Shea-Porter and President Obama made it very clear during their election campaigns what kind of health insurance reform they would fight for. They delivered. That should be cheered.

Promises made. Promises kept. Great job by our Democrats in office.

Jim, you need to wake up to how your team won the elections.

Most people supporting Obama voted against Bush and had no idea who or what they were supporting. Now that they are learning what Obama stands for they are getting even more upset with Democrat then they did at Republicans.

I know Obama voters Jim and they are getting upset because what they believed is not what they are getting. The believed Obama would end the Iraq war... instead he just tossed Cindy Sheehan in jail. They believed he would end the budget deficit created under Bush and would deliver a larger tax cut the McCain offered... instead we've seen some of the largest spending bills in the history of this country passed under Obama and there is now talk of a national sales tax on top of our income tax.

Your Democrat colored glasses may show all rainbows and unicorns but that's not what the rest of this country is seeing.

Jim isn't the only one asleep.
Too many people think that it is okay for the "ends to justify the means".
Healthcare is a lovely end. Ending terrorism is a lovely end.
Can't anything happen if we just BELIEVE????
Cant' government control everything if we just have the RIGHT people?

No. There really are consequences to actions...tragic consequences.

Richard -- there is truth in what you say. I acknowledge, and said many times, that Democrats did well in 2006 because George Bush was "on the ballot," symobolically of course -- and in 2008 because Barack Obama was "new" and was on the ballot, and people who didn't know either he or his opponent that well could fill in the gaps in Obama's resume, as voters often do (remember Ross Perot who was beating both Clinton and Bush in 1992 until we got to know him a bit more?).

I've expressed my concerns several times in recent months about Democratic Party chances in 2010. I think, however, that two factors are working in Democrats' favor right now as a result of the health care passage.

First is the fact that the Republicans are so divided -- thank you for that. Democrats have been so in past years, nationally and statewide. We still have our differences and will have our primaries. Some contests will be heated. But our divisions aren't deep. We're not angry at and with one another. We'll unify behind our candidates in November. I don't see that happening on the Republican side. Republicans right now are the party of anger -- at one another; and many of them hate us more, but they also will take it out on one another. Your primaries will be bitter. Ours will be in-house disagreements. Elections are lost in the margins. The margin of hate is with the Republicans; the margin of victory will be with the Democrats.

The second matter in our favor is health insurance reform. I think we can make the case in the next several months that his magnificent achievement in Washington is good for the nation. It makes our population stronger to take on the unknown challenges of a difficult world in the 21st Century. That's patriotic. It also allows people to be more free of the excessive burdens of health care costs when they or their children get sick, without having to give money to insurance companies which give their CEOs and stockholders big dividends from the cash they skim from the top of the health care dollars. That's liberty. It also gives equality for all of us -- verifying that health care isn't just for the rich and those who can "buy it" -- that it is indeed a right. That delivers on "...and liberty and justice for all...," which fulfills an American concept.

I think people will get it by November that Democrats delivered, Republicans tried to say "no," which is what they do best. I think we'll hold our own in November, or close to it -- which will be a decent result in a mid-term election. And in 2012 we'll rock again.

Jim

Have you read the health care bill at all?
The Insurance companies have just gotten 30 million new guaranteed customers. The Government has just guaranteed to the Insurance companies and the Pharmaceuticals that they will have all the customers and they get a guaranteed 15% Operating Expense. An expense that just went down dramatically because they no longer need to negotiate, no longer need to deny and defend, often times eventually losing. The Insurance companies deal just became sweeter than ever before "all the reward and none of the costs!"
All the Noise about them funding the opposition was just that noise, the Insurance companies had no reason to fight because they were early adopters look at AARP, AMA, etc the fix was in early on.
You now are subject to denial and referral to the "End of Life Planning Benefit" once your CE (comparative effectiveness) score falls below certain thresholds! You are free to go off and die quietly for the motherland.
