Richard Barnes

A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government. – Thomas Jefferson

Obama's Wars

“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” - Obama 2007 Boston Globe

Interestingly enough this week Obama attacked Libya without the authorization of Congress.

When Bush presented evidence that turned out to be incorrect for his justification to attack Iraq Democrats chanted Bush lied people died, yet here Obama has presented no evidence at all showing Libya to be a threat to us in any way.

In the case of the "collation" that supported Libya they are entirely made up of the countries that received large amounts of oil from Libya, with the exception being the US, and shockingly the Democrats who cried blood for oil over Iraq seem silent that the countries benefiting the most are the ones chanting for us to charge in.

When Bush attacked Iraq he was blasted by the left because it put us in a position of paying for 2 wars, both wars are still going on, despite Obama's changing the terms of those in Iraq from war time troops to "peace keeping troops".  Libya would be our 3rd ongoing conflict.

Bush was blasted for not have a clear exit strategy for Iraq.  Obama is now finding himself holding that same bag with Libya claiming he plans to hand over operations to other members of the UN but all other countries are looking around saying "no us".

When Bush was President the media continually ran death totals showing how many troops died in combat, August 17th, 2010 the number of US military troops to die in Afghanistan under President Obama passed the number that died while Bush was in charge.  So far there has been no mention of that in the media.

And don't even get me started on how the left pointed to Bush's wars and claimed they were the reason for all the national debt related problems we see today.  Do we have a buy 2 get one free deal going on wars?

How can the left continue to be quiet and act like everything they railed against Bush for is somehow different now?

One of the few voices of consistency I've found is Cindy Sheehan.  Here is an excerpt from her blog:

When the UN first announced its intervention in Libya, we were assured the United States wouldn't be in the forefront of military action.  The US would largely act as a supplier and facilitator for the "broad-based coalition" arrayed against Libya.  It took less than two days to give lie to this.  On Saturday, just after the French - with extensive oil interest in Libya - jumped the gun on the UN coalition and started attacking Libyan ground forces, the United States joined in with a missile attack on Libyan cities.  What wonderful cooperation, eh?  Not a few missiles; not 10 or 30 or 50 missiles - but a barrage of 110 Tomahawk missiles, targeting Tripoli and Misurata.  What were you thinking, Preznit Change-O?  Anyway, the game is now afoot.  You have drawn first blood from Libya, which now becomes the sixth (at least) Muslim nation in which you have launched deadly military actions, joining Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.

Carol Being Carol

An interesting editorial ran this week in the Union Leader asking whether or not Carol Shea Porter was changed by Washington.  You can read it in full HERE but I'd like to share a small excerpt.

Has Washington changed Carol Shea-Porter?

It’s a question that’s being asked in New Hampshire as the Democratic congresswoman gears up for reelection amid criticism that she’s become an insular member of the political establishment she once confronted as a grass-roots activist.

While Republicans have seized on the issue as part of their effort to deny her a third term, the state media has also focused on the theme after Shea-Porter avoided scheduling open town halls during Congress’s August recess. While she eventually held the events, it wasn’t until after she took considerable heat — and after her likely 2010 Republican opponent, Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta, announced he would be holding his own public health care event.

“The irony is, of course, that Shea-Porter used to be a ‘tea-bagger’ on the left,” wrote Nashua Telegraph columnist Kevin Landrigan in late August, borrowing a phrase Shea-Porter had used to describe conservative town hall opponents. “We remember when, Carol, do you?”

Many of us who have opposed Carol from the start had said from day one that she was the do as I say not as I do type and she has time and time again proven us right.  Why are people so shocked?

She like Obama and many other Democrats in office ran against Bush and any policy they could connect him to.  They continue to blame him for everything that goes wrong while they themselves provide no answers or solutions.

Democrats have controlled the house and senate since 2006 and since that time this country has gone down hill with increasing national debt to record levels, unemployment hitting record highs and their biggest failure is so far there have been no real changes in the path of the wars in the Middle East.

Obama and the Democrats under him have not change anything in the Middle East.  Iraq is still following the plan Bush's team put in place.  This was the biggest reason Democrats gave for voting for them over any Republicans and yet nothing has changed.  But don't take my word for it, remember Cindy Sheehan?  She's the one Democrats led out and put on all the leading news channels time and time again in order to win votes.  Here's what she has to say on her own website:

President Peace-nik:  Where's that change?  I'm still hoping.  (But that's no change.)  I began wondering about civilian casualties in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  I saw there's no easily located public informatioon.  I found good data on Afghani casualties and very interesting information on Pakistani casualties.  So I ask whether ratcheting these casualties up is really what a good litle Nobel laureate peace-nik President should be doing?  (Oh well - same as it always was.)

In a different entry she writes:

Since my son was killed, I have thrown everything I have at the machine. Every penny I have, every ounce of energy, every relationship and even my health have been sacrificed to end the wars and five years later there is very little to show for such a profound investment and the even sadder part is that I am not the only one in the struggle. Multiply these sacrifices by thousands of us and there’s a whole lot of heartache for zippity-do-dah.

As evidenced by poor showings at anti-war marches and rallies all over the country since the Democrats came back into power in 2006, I am growing more convinced that very few people care at all about the wars and the killing and those of that do are growing weary and teary.

I feel bad for her.  She like many others trusted Democrats to follow through on what they said and while those of us who remain cynical said Republicans are the lesser of the two evils we brushed off, she and others like her are now seeing why we said what we did then and why we're right now.

Democrats win by lying to you.  Cindy now sees that and the editorial writers at the Union Leader are now seeing that with Carol.

Do You Remember Cindy Sheehan?

Remember Cindy Sheehan?  She was the poster girl against Bush's war in Iraq.  The media couldn't get enough of her putting her on the front page nearly every day while Republicans were in power.

Of course that was when she went after Republicans.  Cindy is on Martha's Vineyard this weekend protesting against Obama.  You wont see that on the mainstream news and the few sites that do cover her at this point do so mockingly such as the story found HERE.

It wouldn't be an official presidential summer vacation without her. Cindy Sheehan is going to follow President Barack Obama to Martha's Vineyard.
The "peace mom," who famously protested the Iraq war by camping out near President George W. Bush's Texas ranch during his vacations, plans to arrive on the island Aug. 25 -- two days after the first family gets there. Sheehan's son was killed in Iraq five years ago. A statement on Sheehan's blog says she and "other like-minded peace activists" want to remind Obama "the body bags aren't taking a vacation."
The Washington Examiner's Byron York gives Sheehan credit for consistency, but thinks "her days are over." He says the anti-war forces that rallied around her when Bush was in office have fallen silent and moved on.

I have to say hats off to Cindy.  If nothing else she is doing an excellent job exposing the liberal hypocrisy of the left.
