OCCUPY WALL STREET FOR DUMMIES

"In hindsight it may even seem inevitable that a socialist society will starve when it runs out of capitalists."  —Larry Niven

How does one become an Occupy Wall Street Protestor? A quest for understanding in a somewhat complicated topic. Why? Because there are some who seem to demonstrate a modicum of intelligence and articulate usage of the language when the camera is rolling. And, there are some who dress reasonably normal (normal meaning, no obvious hygiene challenges, maintaining a groomed appearance). Those folks are in the vast minority. And certainly it would not be an accurate statement to say these slackers are all "youth generational." The camera has caught some old enough to be peers of my parents.

But the task at hand is an immediate one. How do I blend in? How do I become an OWS protestor. I suppose I should start with something superficial. Ah yes! you say, "Things aren't always as they appear." and how right one might be to make such a characterization. But any good leftist will tell you, honesty is a relative term. "Your views are your views."  Kind of akin to calling people racists because they don't like Obama... Yet, when it is pointed out that these same "racists" like Herman Cain, the argument shifts to, "you only like him because he gives your racism cover." Rank dishonesty is the domain of the left. And outward appearance is what we first see from our friends in the lame stream media.

As a segue into my OWS protestor journey, I neither shave nor shower for an extended period of time. (if I wish to wholly embrace this slacker look, I don't brush my teeth, either..If a casual observer spies a chive stuck in my teeth when I smile, I have arrived) It is important to engender that, "rail against the establishment" appearance. Smelling ones' own smell, is sufficient validation one has achieved parity with the OWS appearance.

To truly embrace the concept, I must purchase the utmost gaudy, kitschy articles of clothing from the local thrift store. A prerequisite for this neo-haberdashery might be faint odors of mothballs, cedar or musty fragrant odors. After all people need to experience overall discomfort with me in their quest to be, "tolerant".

I might be remiss if I didn't take up smoking. Nothing says "stick it to the man" like cigarette smoking. Perhaps I might even acquire a small bag of weed to make some fast friends. "A Friend with weed is a friend indeed," you know. [insert Bag O' Weed song from Family Guy]. Perhaps a pint of a libation? Drinking on public property also says, "Stick it to the Man." MD 2020...Boone's Farm? Nope! only the best! As I was wandering through Victory Park, I was startled to see a young lad parked in front of a tent with a couple of other lads, sporting a bottle of Glenfiddich 30. That kid probably stole it.

I cannot go to an OWS protest without signs. Need a Sharpie...No money, no problem just shoplift it. Otherwise, I requisition all the stuff for needed signs at the local college my mummy and daddy are paying for me to attend. Oh, and I need a drum, too. If the local kitschy junk stores are in short supply, I can steal that, too. I soldier on about the business of gathering the needed goods to attend this OWS shindig.

I am now packed and ready...I have my Blackberry....made by a greedy crooked corporation, financed by the crooks on Wall Street...I have my Coleman Tent, made by yet another big greedy corporation; The clothing I wear produced in either China or Indonesia, where I complain about how low wages are in comparison to U.S. Workers, without regard to standard of living; I've got a handy supply of cigarettes made by Big Greedy crooked Tobacco Companies that are on a mission to kill America's children; I've got my weed, its purchase having funded some drug lord somewhere who kills a lot of people to achieve market dominance; Finally a stop-off at Planned Parenthood for some free condoms. And please don't remind me about the greedy Institutions of higher learning with their arbitrary and unaccountable yearly tuition hikes; I simply do not want to hear it.

But what about food? well, nobody seems to have an answer for that. So I guess I am on my own and if I get hungry enough I can purchase a nice meal using my ATM Debit card issued by the, "Zionist Jew-controlled [sic] banks." Money on that card funded by none other than the "magic money færies." Wow! Capitalism sucks!

And speaking of the,  "Zionist Jew-controlled [sic] banks,"  I now need to practice an attitude of "tolerance..." absent of "bigotry and hate..." except for the evil, "Zionist Jew-controlled [sic] banks." No racism here, NOPE! Haters go home!

So why am I going? Why? because I want free stuff. I want a living minimum wage...about 20 bucks an hour...But If I don't like my job or don't want to work, then I want a Check. I like the way Germany does it. Government mandates for shorter work days, paid breaks funded vacations, "free" healthcare...housing, this list goes on. I want my student loans forgiven, if I am one from the lesser masses. I want the government to mail me a check when I am out of work. In fact, I don't even want to go to the mailbox...I want the postman to walk in my house and hand it to me while I am playing X-Box and eating Doritos. But I cannot do all of this without a villain. And that villain is the corporate fat cats on Wall Street and Corporate America and the stingy rich people who won't share their money.

My "retarded" conservative daddy says, "If we liquidated everything rich people owned and then sold all their assets and sacked their employees we would have their combine total net worth of 3 trillion dollars... an amount the current government requires annually for expenditures. So with that done, we could fully finance the US government for just one year." Naturally, for an effective OWS mindset, I need to say, "Daddy is full of crap." Class warfare....it's the only way to go.

All of this is well and good, but beating that drum hour after hour gets boring. So I am looking forward to getting drunk, laid, stoned and seeing what I can strategically sponge off others there.  Certainly, those with communal notions will share? Oh well, if not, I'll just steal. Stealing is okay as long as I am looking out for the greater good and I am part of that greater good. Note to Self: attempt getting into that cute hippy chick's pants...no, not that one, the other who with the little dog.

Finally, I wonder, "Who brings the toilet paper?" Nobody asks that, now do they? Just wondering. Perhaps the Unions will bring the paper.

Teri Norelli Cries Foul on the Budget: Insert Yawn Here

"If you put the government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand." ~Milton Friedman, Economist

Democratic leader Terri Norelli takes pen to the Union Leader this morning to decry the Republican budget. Norelli does a masterful work in her use of descriptors and categorizations demagoguing the Republicans and House Speaker Bill O'Brien with the much-expected and predictable, but artful class warfare genre of writing liberal democrats have become so adept at using. So, what is so new about this?

Back in June fellow writer Steve MacDonald detailed Terri "Billion-Dollar Deficit" Norelli's dislike for the Budget. Steve contrasts the present budget with former offerings of the democrat-controlled house, aptly pointing out that the,  "(budget) was written based on revenue we figured we'd actually have a shot at making, not money we imagined we had to make to cover excessive spending we could never hope to afford..."  The tone and tenor Norelli brings to her narrative still advocates and defends the Democratically-dominated legislature, with its deficit spending, taxing and expansion of state government. Steve continues in his description of the budget Norelli presided over,  "There is no laundry list of increased taxes and fees in it during a recession.  It does not rely on one time federal money.  No one is using last minute debt to pay for spending we cannot afford, so we can pretend the budget is balanced.  There is a concerted effort live within our means.     No future land sales estimates based on property no one has identified, at prices we could only guess at, are being documented as a "done deal" to hide a 60 million dollar hole in the 'balanced budget'."

"And most heinous of all?  No new post-midnight, last minute taxes; passed on the last day of the session; under the cover of darkness; in violation of the state constitution; that the governor and most of the democrat party would later have to back-off of but whose repeal-under-duress they would actually have the balls to try and run on as proof that they do cut taxes."

It was on Norelli's watch that balanced-budget concerns of the day prompted actions of borrowing money to mortgage the future and pass the budget holes along to be fixed by someone else. Now, the current legislature is the, "someone else" and all none of the cash cow constituencies like the austere measures at hand.

It's pretty clear Norelli's misses and still wants the previous status quo, as she still demonstrates a fondness for deficit spending, expanded government and entitlement spending.

Local Fish Wrapper Concord Monitor Editorial On Asylums And Witch Hunts

When assertions come to the forefront accusing the government and the courts of corruption, misconduct and oppression...and those assertions are made by those who might be well-considered, "conservative," those people are wing nuts...nut jobs, extremists, fascists and, as the Concord Monitor characterizes them, "Witch Hunters."

And, when accusations of government of corruption, court misconduct and oppression are made by those who of a liberal progressive bent, suddenly the conversation devolves into the plight of the poor oppressed and persecuted individuals and their plight before a corrupt right wing government consisting of the white anglo-saxon protestant oligarchy...usually followed by the requisite hue and cry, "We must rise up and stick it to, 'the man.'"

How an issue is couched depends largely on one's world view. But to read the Concord Monitor editorial, accepting what is written at face value, one might easily opine that the actions of Representatives Itse, Ingbretson, Baldasaro and Seidel are patently without merit. But in typical liberal fashion, the editorial staff at CM banks its assertions on the notion that people are not going to critically think about what is being done in the name of justice and accept their notion that this is nothing more than a witch hunt.

Despite the numerous past media accounts of Judicial Misconduct (often given little print by the CM, I might add) we are all presumed to accept the paradigm that the courts rarely, if ever, err... and judges and masters are always above reproach in the crafting of their decisions.

There are few that do not acknowledge the zero-sum nature of divorce and family actions where there are clear winners and losers. But people don't really comprehend (or don't really want to) the rank unfairness that occurs in these cases for little more than personal missions of activism and perceived leveling of the playing field. The Judicial Conduct Committee has long demonstrated its unwillingness to effectively discipline errant or wayward judges with little more than an admonishment. Hence, we now have what is commonly referred to, as the, "Live Boy/Dead Girl Legal Doctine"...(The standard required to remove a judge).

Oh yes, by all means...corrupt judges do exist; We all acknowledge that...but that's other places, not in New Hampshire. Our judges defecate Tiffany cuff links. And shame on those New Hampshire Reps for trying to address the concerns of citizens. After all, it's not like Itse, Baldesaro, Ingbretson and Seidel have a brain...NO! they just initiate House address bills on the single knee-jerk reaction of one person, refusing to look for a pattern of misconduct and trends, that might make an otherwise reasonable person opine, "Something is rotten in Denmark" The Concord Monitor Editorial Staff should try appearing a bit more independent and less like a proxy mouthpiece for some judicial hack with self-serving ambitions and hurt feelings.

Higher Housing Costs? Thank A Liberal!

On the topic of affordable housing, liberals love to play the class warfare card, frequently painting rental property owners as them "bourgeoisie" exploiting the poor and less fortunate.  When the local paper treats us to a news piece on the inattentive landlord whose building is in disrepair, these individuals instantly serve as the standard-bearer for the bourgeoisie robber baron liberals love to point their anemic, boney little fingers at.

What is NOT news are the working class folks who own a building or two and demonstrate pride of ownership, personal responsibility and a conscientious effort to provide excellent housing at a fair price. BORING! Yes...no news story there. However, these folks...(one of which I am) sometimes experience the uglier, painful expensive side of being the landlord, especially when unscrupulous tenants, adept at gaming the system, tax the resources of a landlord.

Such is the case in Darbouze v. Champney where the New Hampshire Supreme Court issued its opinion on September 17.  In this case, Nancy Champney, tenant of Max Darbouze, was evicted from her premises for failure to pay rent. In court, Champney asserted the action was defective for three reasons and sought dismissal of the action. She first argued that Darbouze, in using the words, "Notice to Quit" invalidated the action because the legislature in 2006 changed the statutory language to simply state, "Eviction Notice." Second, She stated that the service of the Demand and Notice were defective because it did not contain her last name. finally, Champney asserted the action was ripe for dismissal because the statutory 7-day notice was not a "clean" seven-day period. The Supreme Court disagreed on all three issues and affirmed the eviction.

Victory for the Landlord, right? Yes...on the legal merits and the argument. But not really. This eviction began in August of 2009 and was finally disposed of in September of 2010. We do not know the circumstances of this particular case, but when a tenant files a notice of intent to appeal, that stays the enforcement of any Writ of Possession that typically follows.  Think of the legal costs Max Darbouze endured to have his side represented before the court.

Tenants like these are nothing new or novel or unique. A landlord who fails to hire an attorney due to cost can end up filing the same action for eviction over and over again. Legal Aid gives out very generous and free advice...to tenants, that is. And these tenants, despite being dullards in most other matters of life, are amazingly astute and informed on the intricacies of Landlord and Tenant Law. I can't count on both hands the number of phone calls I received over the years from fellow property owners who have had "professional tenants" (as we like to call them) cross their path.  A professional tenant can live rent free for extended periods of time knowing how to game the system, beat up the landlord and block legal action.

This case languished for a over a year before it was resolved....and the very act that prompted the eviction was NEVER a contested issue. While this decision was favorable to Max Darbouze...And, while it gives future guidance to other landlords, certainly that is of little comfort to Mr. Darbouze, who bore this cost.

Owning a residential rental property to rent to others brings with it certain duties and responsibilities on the part of the landlord. Conventional wisdom might suggest that in return a renter might be obliged to pay rent on time, be considerate of his or her neighbors and not wreck the place. Obviously, that assumes far too much.

There is no shortage of assistance, self-help and free legal advice to tenants who find themselves the subject of a landlord's summary possession action. Legal Aid is a whole other culture. The rationale is that there are usually children who suffer the net consequence of an eviction, so these liberals put aside the extremely bad choices made to render assistance.

In my experience, I find it amusing that, while evicting a single head of household delinquent on rent, that person will shake a fist while threatening and caterwauling, "You are going to hear from my lawyer!" (That always cracks me up)

When a Landlord kicks a deadbeat tenant to the curb, there is little likelihood the Landlord is ever going to recover his financial losses. And, the financial losses are significant. Aside from not being paid the rent due, the landlord now has to pay the costs to rehabilitate the apartment to re-rent it. And to be quite frank...very few of these tenants ever leave the place in decent shape. They always go out swinging...I had one tenant who placed a bunch of dirty disposable diapers in the oven and turned it on to 200 degrees. The appliance had to be discarded and replaced.

So the next time somebody is carping and whining about the high cost of rents, bear in mind that very very few of those rent prices reflect a pure market price. Every time the liberals take a shot at "mom and pop landlord" the cost is driven up and sometimes, housing removed from the market. If you think rental costs are exorbitant and rental requirements are tedious, thank the liberals for that and dispense with pointing a finger at the property owner.

Income Tax Now! And To Hell With The People Who Elect Me!

"Reasonable Income Tax not that unreasonable." says Seth Marshall (D) Nashua, Dist. 23. Marshall is the latest of a long list of many pimping an Income Tax.  "New Hampshire suffers from a profound dependency problem when it comes to asking her wealthier and more able citizens to join supporting the state in which they live," writes Marshall.  Suffers from a profound dependency problem?  What the heck does that mean?  Anyhow, Marshall seems to imply there is a shyness (I think) about asking, "The "wealthier and more able citizens to join supporting the state in which they live..."

When the advancement of ideas for an income tax are before reasonable people in the pretext of the, "wealthier" and "more able" paying their fair share, common folks generally agree this is "class warfare".  Al Gore was all about, "making the rich pay their fair share." And, Gore was all about class warfare.  Al Gore is a living example of epic hypocrisy.

The Honorable Mr. Marshall never discloses what this, "blessed gift of pamphlet" is.   He must assume its factoids are valid at face value.  To support his thesis, Marshall treats us to one isolated snippet, asserting, "New Hampshire revenues rely most heavily upon real estate property taxation."  I am not sure that is such a bad thing in the context of a state, that demonstrates fiscal restraint and responsibility, but to use those descriptors in the same sentence with the New Hampshire Legislature is a punch line to a fiscal joke.

A reasonable person with ten minutes and a search engine quickly learns income taxes NEVER provide tax relief because governments see revenue as an excuse to spend.  Other states have property tax rates that are comparable to the Granite State, yet they have enacted an income tax to reduce the property tax burdens. It never works, folks!  Some of these states also have sales taxes, excise taxes and a slew of other such oppressive taxes.

2010 marks a hallmark year where people have had all they can take of a deaf-mute government and its confiscatory tax policies. Implementation of a national healthcare plan against the will of the electorate, advocacy for a European-style value added tax, staggering deficits the country has never seen, and still Seth Marshall and his liberal friends still advocate for the infernal income tax.  Marshall's advocacy in the wake of this fiscally unrestrained state legislature, can only be best characterized as audacious.

Citizens have been the recipients of more than forty new fees and taxes; in economic hard times, this legislature expanded spending upwards of twenty-five per-cent and has demonstrated an unwillingness to curb spending.

Mr. Marshall is yet another reason why he and his ilk need to be thrown out of office.  What becomes crystal clear is the New Hampshire citizens are being ignored. It was not so long ago that Republican State Representative Liz Hager advocated for a state income tax.  She was summarily unseated in her re-election primary. And, were she holding her seat today, she too would be thrown out of office in November.

Class warfare is an oldest and corruptest of arguments.  The economic have-nots do not provide the capital or resources that creates businesses and jobs. It is the wealthy.  An income tax will never fixes fiscal problems. Fiscal discipline does.  Representative Marshall's editorial should serve as a reminder that liberals are bereft of ideas and ignoring the people. To tell us the income tax is not that unreasonable when so very few want it, demonstrates why he needs to be voted out of office.
