We are Borg
Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 07:31AM The lefty leadership in Concord is notorious for assimilating (D)'s to the party agenda no matter what kind of positions they ran on. More than one socially or fiscally conservative "democrat" has gotten themselves elected to the State House by a hopeful constituency only to end up as liberal as the rest of the collective. They vote in blocks. They accept no dissenters. They are Borg.
One recent relevant rumor percolating out of the mire is that Gene Anderson from Grafton-11 resigned because of the friction between his desire to vote his conscience and the regressive-lefty-leaderships persistence that he vote with the collective.
Gene wasn't going to be allowed to vote based on how he was elected to office, so when he could no longer tolerate the stress and anguish of having a mind of his own, he took the door. 'Spending more time with the family' is code for a lot of things including "I can't take this cr*p any longer."
Unfortunately far too many freshmen legislators lack the stones to do the same. They get assimilated by the Borg. And they stay that way.
So this begs an obvious question. Sheila Murray is reported to be a well known and respected citizen from Salem, who has chosen to run as the democrat in the Rockingham 4 special election on April 28th, but she is running as something of a fiscal and social conservative democrat. Be warned. This is the kiss of death.
Odds are good that once she gets to Concord the party membership, and party leadership, are going to pressure this pleasant well-meaning woman to vote the party line on every vote, and while she may try to stand firm in the beginning, how long will she be able to tolerate being an outcast in her own caucus if she fails to comply with their wishes? How long can anyone report for duty, knowing that they could be shunned, talked down too, or even harassed to change their ways. How long before one vote becomes every vote, and she's no different than every other moderate democrat who was consumed by the liberal hive? At that point she's no longer the person the people of Rockinham 4 thought they were electing.
Of course she might stand her ground and eventually take the door, like Gene Anderson, but then Salem and Windham will find themselves looking at another special election.
But I think the people of Salem are looking to ensure that we continue to move towards restoring much needed balance to the NH State House by electing a few more conservative policy makers. If that's the case they had best vote for a candidate who is not only a proven social and fiscal conservative, but one who will not be pressured on a daily basis to conform to the liberals regressive line. Nothing against Sheila Murray, but her party will not tolerate any conservative votes; they will try to assimilate her. Its not if but when. It's what they do; they are Borg.
Conveniently enough, the voters in Rockingham 4 have a proven candidate on the ballot, who has a conservative record andwill provide more balance to the current tax and spend majority. Her name is Marilinda Garcia.

House session yr.2006, HB 1639, Rep Gene Anderson was the only Democrat from Grafton County to vote in favor. A no vote, actually was in favor of the bill.
(HB 1639 prohibiting the confiscation of lawfully owned and lawfully carried firearms during a state of emergency). President Bush sign similar legislation four months later.
Gene Anderson obeyed his Oath of Office.
