Check Your Pulse

There is much speculation about which republican will run for Judd Greggs Senate seat. Some of it centers on efforts by the right to avoid a primary by making a deal that will allow only one candidate to run. Others suggest that there are interested parties of old—including people whose names have not turned up in political discussion for ages—preparing to dust themselves off because they think they still have enough name recognition to have a shot.

While I do not profess to know the minds of all the faithful, let me offer up a suggestion based on what I have heard.

If you haven’t been contributing to the trench war by visibly supporting candidates or party policies, or by maintaining an active voice in the day to day politics of the state the grass roots may not support you, and in this climate you can’t win without them. You see, we aren’t looking for political opportunists. We don’t want people who think they are entitled and have been waiting for the right time to run. We need serious legislators who are active participants in the day to day battle because these are the candidates who are already connected to the people they will represent.

That doesn’t mean you can’t sit back down behind whatever big old desk you’ve been lounging behind these past few years and ruminate about a substantial donation to someone who’s actually been fighting every day to protect the New Hampshire way.

But if that’s not enough, perhaps a refresher course is in order. There are at least 14 State Senate Seats that could use a fresh ass. And it would give you an opportunity to really get in touch with the voices of the people on both sides of every issue. I mean if you really want to serve the people, this is an outstanding opportunity for anyone who has been thinking about getting back into government. Jeb Bradley did it. You can too.

More than likely you could continue to lurk in whatever semi-obscurity you have enjoyed up until now. We promise to respect that choice should you decide to make it, but we can’t say we’d miss you because you haven’t been there.

So if we haven’t seen you at rally’s, or heard you speak recently, or read you editorializing in the local or national papers, or on a blog, or even seen evidence that you’ve been a punching bag over on Blue Hampshire for speaking out against anything the Democrat run state or national government has been up to, don’t run for the US Senate.  Buy gold instead. I hear it’s an excellent investment opportunity but you have to act now.
