Serendipity

When I bought my wife a box or Good Earth Vanilla Chai Tea (one of her mothers day gifts) I was not expecting anything other than tea.

After lunch I offered her a cup and much to my surprise the first bag I removed from the box--yes, it was a tea bag--had the following quote on the little paper tab.

The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.

-Horace Walpole (1717-1797)

I'd never heard of Horatio Walpole but a quick search reveals him to be the 4th Earl of Orferd, an author, and (get this) the man credited with coining the term serendipity.

Indeed.

So what to make of my serendipitous discovery of Mr. Walpole's quote? I'd say that politically speaking it hits the nail on the head.  Find me a left winger who doesn't think the world in one way or another a near constant tragedy requiring the mighty hand of government to right it.

Very amusing.  Good cup of tea by the way.

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day.
