Asking the Questions.

Today I got through to the home office of Executive Councilor Ray Burton. I left a message regarding the nomination of DRED Commissioner George Bald. And I asked why Bald should be confirmed to this post.

I’m looking forward to the answer. I’d also be willing to bet that the hundreds of papermakers in Coos county that have lost their jobs and their homes would also like to know why this official is being re-appointed to a state agency that has basically done what?

And speaking about DRED, it doesn’t get any better than this. It really doesn’t.

Also today I read in a newspaper at Border's bookstore that DRED is sponsoring a business coaching seminar to be filmed at the Comfort Inn on Hall Street in Concord before a live audience.

Imagine that.

The State of New Hampshire is sponsoring a business development seminar using taxpayer money on how to start a business. This is the same state agency that runs Cannon Mountain Ski area. I have a few questions about this business development seminar:

Will there be entertainment for the live audience? I wonder if they’ll be a teleprompter to tell the live audience when they can clap and cheer? What types of business do they plan on giving advice? Why does DRED have to sponsor this? Why can’t a downtown law firm sponsor it like they’re doing with the political pages in the newspapers? I don’t have a dictionary in front of me but one word seems to stand out about what this business development seminar on Hall Street really means.
