“The other rest areas targeted for closure in the governor's budget plan are Antrim, Colebrook, Epsom, Lebanon, Littleton, Rumney and Shelburne. The projected savings is $800,000, including the loss of about four full-time and eight part-time employees.”- Concord Monitor Newspaper.
Save the $800,000.00
This is an example of what is wrong with NH State Government.
Each time this comes up as a proposal every person connected with these centers stirs up a storm stating all that is done for tourism of course they don’t provide a shred of evidence in support of their position(s) except to save the coveted jobs for their friends.
That is what this is about.
When I was a State Representative I tried to find out the employment status of the state workers staffing the Littleton Rest Area. Guess how many local individuals were employed there?
That’s right at the time there were people commuting from Laconia and Manchester to work at the Littleton Rest Area! I’m confident the situation hasn’t changed much. Closing these rest areas would save New Hampshire taxpayers $800,000.00.
