Motor City Notes.

The diesel gets it going but it’s the faith that keeps it rolling.” – Quote.

Came up I-75 last night it was quite a ride. I’m in the Motor City now right near the MGM Grand Casino which is likely one of the nicest casinos I’ve been in ever. Surprised by this because everything I’ve read and heard about Detroit is that the whole region is economically depressed and the expanded casino gaming iniative isn’t working in this city.

From what I’ve seen it is working. Detroit looks a lot better than some of the other U.S. cities that I’ve been to recently namely, St. Louis and Atlanta and anywhere in Alabama-- I can think of no U.S. states that have absolutely nothing going for them, except Alabama. I’ll be writing more about Detroit I’m getting ready to cross over the border into Canada and then head up to Toronto and Montreal before hitting 10 west and then ultimately I-91 into Vermont and New Hampshire.

Yesterday I was in a Petro Truckstop they have a really good breakfast buffet called the ‘Iron Skillet’ and very reasonable if you’re on the road. They’re owned by the same company that owns the Travel America (TA) truckstops and if you fuel there (even regular cars) points on your rewards card can lead to things like free breakfast. While I’m on the subject of truck stops the Pilot/Flying J truck stop also has rewards points for purchases but their food isn’t as good (Denny’s) as the iron skillet. Lastly, is the Love’s truck stop chain I don’t have much experience here I haven’t stopped there for fuel and they all seem to have McDonald’s inside of them which definitely isn’t as good. Think there is a TA in Greenland, New Hampshire.

Found this quote on a most elegant looking Freightliner Coronado yesterday I’m thinking that it might have some correlation to politics and how it might be used. In any case I like the direction is it headed and I’m headed there right now!
