Democrats Announce “Frontline” Incumbents

NH Insider has learned that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has selected Congressman Hodes but not Congresswoman Shea-Porter to be a member of its Frontline program.

According to the report NH Insider recieved:

Frontline is the D’s response to the Republicans’ Retain Our Majority Program (ROMP), begun in the 2000 cycle, which was instituted to protect politically endangered congressmen when the GOP controlled the House.  The DCCC established their program in 2001. The purpose of both operations is to attract early financial support for the members who appear to be facing the most competitive re-election battles in the hopes of dissuading their strongest rivals from running.

Congresswoman Shea- Porter not being included on the list is particularly surprising especially because of her weak fundraising having collected just over $360,000 last cycle.

This is great! The Dems aren't taking the CSP-Jeb race seriously! I don't think Hodes is in any danger, he will win with about 58%. CSP is in serious danger and her anti-American statements on the House floor don't help.

Representative Carol Shea-Porter opted out of the program. She can speak for herself on that, but doesn't tend to brag.

So let me lend my take: She remains committed the people who voted for her. She has again shown courage that sets her apart from almost all politicians in recent memory.

Where others take money from big oil, big pharma and you name it--CSP won't even take money from her own national party.

So don't get too cocky Bring Back Jeb!

Chaz,

You may be right. But what is CSP's committment to her constituents that did not vote for her?

I appreciate Carol Shea Porter's stance.

What is any politician’s commitment to those who don't vote for them? If they are decent, they find the best they can for the majority of their people. This is where some Republicans and Democrats have failed. In good government one balances all forces as best they can. Some just look to the money to stay in power, then you has service only to those with money. A BIG reason we form a government is so that we can collectively defend ourselves. Sometimes this means defense from strong brutal people and sometimes it means defense from people with power and money who take advantage of us. It is not easy being a politician and they will not always defend each of us as we would like, but government should be a balance of all forces. Right now, corporations have come to have way too much say in government. Corporations are businesses and they should be running businesses, NOT government. Our Constitution says that OUR government is "by the people, for the people". My God, it sounds a lot like communism!

Alan,

You caught me. I mis-spoke when I wrote the people who voted for her. Should have written "her constituents."

I think that refusing Democratic Party money speaks volumes about her commitment to all NH citizens whether Dems Independents or Republicans.

During the campaign Carol made is clear (relentlessly really--I remember her saying it over and over) that she intened to listen to and represent all of her constituents.

Obviously Abe Lincoln applies here--you can't please all the people all of the time. No one can do that.

My point remains the same though.

CSP was a fluke.

I don't see CSP as a fluke, I see her and many others like her as the beginning of a rise of the voiceless in this country. Those who want a change in the direction of this country. It is a cycle that continues over and over. It keeps us somewhere in the middle of the political spectrum. A struggle between conservative and liberal, labor and capital, religious and not so religious, war mongers and peaceniks, stong President and strong Congress......
