A blogger view of the Imus situation

Under pressure to criticize Don Imus for his recent comments Barack Obama may have gone too far according to some. Blogger Don Surber writes:

1. Am I alone in being disturbed by Barack Obama's call for firing a broadcaster over something he said? This off-with-his-heads mentality is unpresidential. Imagine if President Bush said someone should be fired. He called Adam Clymer an asshole and that caused a stir.

The message is chillingly clear: A President Obama would call for the firing of his critics.

Obama appeared on the Don Imus program early on in Obama's career. This is how he re-pays friends.

Hillary Clinton has the same disdain for critics. Obviously, Ivy League law schools are deficient in their instruction on free speech.

If  a cashew like Rosie O'Donnell gets it, why not these two?

John Edwards did say Imus should be forgiven. Good for Edwards. But he is doomed. Democrats no longer nominate the sane.

That said, I condemn what Imus said but I defend his right to say it. It is up to CBS Radio as to whether he says it on their stations.

How does Ray Buckley get away with calling Jeb Bradley a drunk, insinuating Jeb is a pervert, calls Marshall Cobleigh a half-wit, calls Ray Buckley old, and someone who needs to take sominex, attacks Andy Martel for his kids indiscretions, says Hitler should have bombed the Hague, gets caught in a MySpace web site with 16 year olds? Where are the democrats when it comes to Buckley? Give me a break. Imus should be fired but Buckley should not have ben promoted.

Where are the calls for firing of the rouge prosecutor in the Duke case?

If you want an example of REAL damage done by racists, that's the case to look at. Those three men were innocent yet their lives have been ruined. They have tens if not hundreds of thousands in legal bills. And why? Because a rouge prosecutor wanted to use the case for political gain. Had it not been for the fact those men had wealthy families not only would their lives have been ruined to the degree they already have been but they'd most likely be sitting in jail.

But all that's OK compared to an old fool on a radio who hurt some girls feelings by saying jokingly the same things you hear in many top selling rap songs and from top black comedians such as Chris Rock.

Give me a break!

I listened to Imus nearly every morning and loved his insight into politicians. He cut thru the spin and asked the questions everyone wanted to hear. He did more for our veterans than all those siting in Washington. He single handedly lead the fight to get the VA straight. We need people who don't let the spin run things. My guess is, that the Rudgers young women never heard the comments. If we are going to clean up the air waves then lets get them all. Have you watched MTV or VH1 lately. You really should, it is disgusting.

I have put my foot in my mouth so many times that I have alot of sympathy for Imus.

Mr. Barnes:

The rogue prosecutor in the Duke case is the Durham district attorney. This is an elected position, and he can only be removed by a vote of the people or by a disbarment action from the NC Bar. He cannot be "fired", as you request. Shockingly, he was re-elected last November, after this scandal occurred. NC voters should hang their heads in shame.

The NC Bar is currently investigating Nifong for ethics violations in this case. Presumably, they will take action to remove him in the fullness of time.

However, if you want many example of REAL damage done by racists, take a look court justice, as its practiced in Texas.
